Firmware updated to V1.4.2.84 1.3.42, USB printer no longer works.

 

  • USB router conntected Printer working.
  • Received email January 7, 2022 We've Enhanced Your Product's Security. Please Update to the Latest Firmware.
  • Allowed time, weeks, suggested in past for updates to be implemented.
  • Nighthawk app, Firmware up to date message. Multiple tries, useless as usual.
  • Home ethernet direct connection to router “GUI” indicates current firmware V1.4.1.68 1.3.28, V1.4.2.84 1.3.42 available.
  • Followed instruction, generally spinning wheel for 20+ min. while updating languages…? Gave up after multiple tries.
  • Review old personal notes from community help.
  • 1, Downloaded .zip which matched firmware version indicated GUI from https://www.netgear.com/support/product/R7900.aspx 
  • 2, Expanded .zip, in GUI followed Browse/Upload/Apply… buttons for a successful firmware update to V1.4.2.84 1.3.42.
  • All seems okay but lost USB connected printer connection. Printer works including same cable direct to up to date 2020 iMac.
  • Print driver… up to date. I don’t remember ever (years) had to use ReadySHARE Printer. Tried, following instruction inn GUI Advanced tab... Trid to install on Mac. blocked by Mac pop-up: "NETGEAR USB Control Center.app" cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified. macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware.

    2 things you could try. 

    1. try a factory reset. Sometimes old settings can cause issues after a firmware update or the setting changed enough it needs to be cleared out and reinstalled. 

    2. you can just downgrade back to the old firmware if you'd like.
