How to access R7000 when set as an access point?
I just set up my "old" R7000 as an access point to extend the wifi reach of my R8000. Just so we are clear. IT WORKS. I am able to connect to the R7000 wifi and get to the internet. The is...
Thanks. My Acer machines with Windows 7 both crashed catastrophically and so that problem is resolved (yuck). I will open a new threaad since my new problem is with different systems.

You can get in by finding the IP address that the router has allocated to your R7000.
There are various ways of doing this, including visiting the controls of the router itself and looking for the IP address in attached devices.
You can also use something like the Netgear desktop genie for your operating system.

I connected to the R7000 directly... (aka take a laptop. connect a Cat5 cable between the laptop and the R7000)
I set the R7000 so that remote administration was enabled.
Now I can connect to the R7000 with any computer on my network.
Now that I can login to the R7000 I can monitor the devices that are connecting to the R7000....

That is a direct connection. It is an excellent way to get into the controls of the R7000 in AP mode.
It is not "remote administration", a term that Netgear does not use.
Remote Management, Netgear's description, which was mentioned in an earlier message, is designed to let you use the Internet to access your devices from somewhere out in the world. As the manual puts it:
"The remote management feature lets you access your router over the Internet to view or change its settings."

They have moved access to that feature in some devices. It is now in Web Services Management.
This is the feature that at least two of us, along with Netgear's documentation, think that Remote Management does not work with a router in AP mode. (It certainly doesn't here.)
Plugging a cable into the R7000 does not count as connecting over the Internet.
I mention this only to warn anyone who sees the "Solved" flag on this conversation and tries to go down the same road. They might get lost.
