Is my nighthawk fried?
Possibly. Lightning is great at killing electronic stuff.
What do the LEDs on the thing show?
If you reset it and it won't work, it may be time for a replacement.

Re: Lightning Strike X4S D7800
The D7800 is DSL modem/router. What about the DSL LED?
If that isn't showing some colour, then the thing is either dead or the connection to the DSL socket has failed.
The manual tells you what to look for.
Visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
and feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

Re: Lightning Strike X4S D7800
I have a spare D7800, which was in a box when the lighting storm happened. I have plugged this in as well ans still no DSL lights show up. Could it be the cables which have been cooked?

Sounds possible.
I assume that the technician showed that the DSL socket is OK. Did they try your cables?

Try a different cable between the wall socket and your modem/router.
