NetGear Nighthawk R7000P router responding to ping when VPN is enabled
I am working with a NetGear Nighthawk R7000P router running V1.3.1.64_10.1.36 of the firmware.
After enabling VPN, I noticed that Respond to Ping on Internet is checked but grayed out and cannot be unchecked. The router now does respond to pings as tested from https://www.grc.com/shieldsup. Turning off VPN "ungrays" the checkbox and it is unchecked by default. For security reasons, I would rather the router be in stealth mode.
I found this NetGear Community solution from 2017, which basically says this is the way it is. Why? Is there some technical reason ping has to be enabled for VPN? Or is this a bug in the firmware? If so, is there a plan to fix it?
Thanks!
