Re: Netgear R7800 Firmware 1.0.2.78
After what happened to me earlier, I always now do a clean install every time and manually put in my settings instead of loading from a save. So far so good.

What is this 'clean install' you speak of?

Re: Netgear R7800 Firmware 1.0.2.78
1) My R7800 has 1.0.2.68 firmware = OK
2) I reset the router to erase all personal parameters
3) At the startup, under the initial minimal configuration (router web interface) update 1.0.2.68 to 1.0.2.78.... Wait for restart...
4) At the startup 1.0.2.78, under the initial minimal configuration, I choose password.... AP MODE... Wifi WPA key... Etc... Reboot normally...
After, the router R7800 works for 5 minutes... Wifi drops, reboot randomly... WTF .... Arghhhhhh....

Re: Netgear R7800 Firmware 1.0.2.78
Basically hold the Reset button in with a toothpick for over half a minute. This should wipe everything and set it to factory default. Once you go back to your browser it should ask you some basic setup questions including the initial password. It will also ask to update to the latest firmware, and I update it. Then I do NOT load any settings, I manually put them in by hand on each part of the router I want to change. Since I started doing that, I have had no issues.

Re: Netgear R7800 Firmware 1.0.2.78
The fact I even have to do that indicates a problem with their software anyway. I never had to do that in the past.

Re: Netgear R7800 Firmware 1.0.2.78
I'm having the same issue. WIFI signal drops randomly after I updated to 1.0.2.78. I am currently on 1.0.2.68 as that was the stable version that worked for me to roll back to. I have had zero problems after going back to .68.
Based on other forums and these, 1.0.2.78 is unstable and causing problems. Don't update to it!
I'm using router mode FYI but I would assume it would be the same for AP mode in WIFI.

DD-WRT Not perfect, but works far more reliably than any recent firmware from the vendor.

Betreff: Netgear R7800 Firmware 1.0.2.78
Exacly the same issue. Simply unusable as an AP with 1.0.2.78. Downgrade to 1.0.2.68 was the only help! - Sad, Netgear was once a so well hard- and software developer!

Re: Netgear R7800 Firmware 1.0.2.78
It might help pinpoint some commonality between who's got problems and who doesn't. Myself, I'm still on .68, I probably haven't rebooted or touched the router at all since that update came out.
Beyond router or AP mode setup, what other types of options are being used, whether you are having problems or no problems ...
- UNPNP on?
- Remote Management on?
- attaching USB devices like HDD's, USB sticks etc? (2.0, or 3.0?)
- using DFS channels for 5GHZ?
- ISP no-login (cable) or PPPOE/L2TP/PPTP (DSL and others)?
- using VPN?
- MU-MIMO ?
- Beamforming ?
- HT160?
- QOS?
- Anything else turned on/off, over and above just picking SSID name, passwords and channels?

FREEBOX MINI 4K (fiber box router)
Behind, my Netgear R7800 acts as a wifi Access point. It is linked to the FREEBOX router with a simple RJ45 cable.
No other specific service are used in my case .... About 10 peripherals are connected thru WIFI on the R7800.

Re: Netgear R7800 Firmware 1.0.2.78
When rollling back to a previous firmware version, any idea on what to do when you get this error: Please assign the correct file. The file format is *.img
When going to the product download page, .chk files are what comes in the compressed file.
I hate this.

Firmware for the R7800 always comes as an .img file. If you have got something else, it isn't for the R7800.
Netgear does use .chk files, but not for the R7800.

I've gone to the correct product page and selected another "stable" firmware version only to be met with the aforementioned error message. This thread may be for a different model but my issue is the same.

Excuse my typo. I meant to put R7000.
Always helps to know what we are talking about. That's a different device.
This conversation is all about the R7800. You might do better to start your own question and not hitch a ride on the end of something completely different.
The firmware on the support pages for the R7000 will also come in the right flavour.
Download the zip file, extract the firmware (a .chk file) and install it:

If the zip file contains something else, then you have the wrong download.

Re: Netgear R7800 Firmware 1.0.2.78
As a result, I have gone to the downloads page for my R700 device and downloaded the 1.0.2.68 firmware and attempted to roll back to that version following the same steps outlined in the link you've provided but was met with the error message of needing an .img when the download give a .chk. (I've even reset my device)
I went further to see of that issue had a thread (which there is more than one) but it offered no solution.
Please excuse the fact that I commented on a thread that doesn't pair exactly with my device but a solution is all I'm seeking to get stable wifi back to my home.

There is no 1.0.2.68 for the R7000. (No idea what the R700 might be.)

Re: Netgear R7800 Firmware 1.0.2.78
The solution is to stop running broken firmware and getting broken updates from the vendor.
Solution: Install DD-WRT and say good bye to the broken Netgear firmware story.
