Netgear security is compromised on NETGEAR-5G-2

R7900P — Nighthawk X6S AC3000 Tri Band WiFi Router

My router is password secured w/WPA2-PSK [AES], and I have Smart connect enabled. The problem is NETGEAR-5G-2 is advertised and connects without a password. However, NETGEAR70 is advertised but requires the wifi access password.

Even if I "Forget" NETGEAR-5G-2, it is still advertised and I can still connect without the wifi password.

have you tried a simple factory reset and re-install? 

Or even re-installing the firmware?

Not yet. But I will as soon as kids finish school work. I'll reply back with results after complete. Thanks!

Reinstalling the firmware did not fix the problem. However, resetting the modem by pressing and holding the reset button in the back of the router with a paperclip for 15seconds corrected the problem. I guess when in doubt, reset first! 🙂
