Re: New - R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.216 Released

I haven't been on this site for 18 months because the R7000s in both my FL and CA homes have run perfectly on 1.0.11.136, unlike most previous FW revs with bugs that drove me nuts over the 8 years I've owned these routers. So I'm a little worried about updating to '216 untill I see some posts from brave pioneers.

One question I have for pioneers is - Did you install '216 directly over '136 without a factory reset?

Another question is - How many fixed IP addresses do you have?

This has been a big headache for me because I often had intermittent FW bugs later appear and only go away if I did a factory reset and re-installed the same FW, which required me to manually re-enter my entire configuration, which includes many fixed IP addresses.  I've wondered if having many fixed IP addresses caused the problems, so for many years I automatically did a factory reset with every FW undate.  Big pain.  Often I found that the new FW was buggy anyway.

My R7000s came very close to the trash bin many times, but '136 changed my mind.  When my R7000s work, they work well.  Wifi coverage is great.  Better than any of my neighbors with single centrally-located routers.   They all had to go to mesh systems and are amazed at the R7000 coverage throughout both my homes.

Re: New - R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.216 Released

A factory reset maybe needed if problems are seen after a FW update. I recommend first trying a power OFF of the router for 30 seconds after the router processes the FW update and is back to ready. If problems continue after a power cycle, then a factory reset and setup from scratch would be next step.

Or

"If it works, don't fix it."

Re: New - R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.216 Released

Anyone know why Netgear's support portal now lists 1.0.11.136 on the download page as being the latest firmware version for the R7000?

Download Center | Downloads and Documentation | NETGEAR

Was there an issue with versions beyond 1.0.11.136 that requires firmware to be reverted to 1.0.11.136?

I can only see .136 as being the latest firmware.

Re: New - R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.216 Released

I see that v.216 is missing and v.136 is at the top and current, though dated from two years ago. 🤔

I'm checking on this with NG.

Re: New - R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.216 Released

Ok, so this version.216 is in responce to a security issue found by NG and resolved:

https://kb.netgear.com/000066085/Security-Advisory-for-Post-Authentication-Stack-Overflow-on-R7000-P...

NG recommends installing this version however it's not currently available for download. NG will check into this.

In mean time, users can check for this version of FW thru the routers web page and get it thru there if you choose to update the router.

Re: New - R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.216 Released

Got it, Nice one thanks!

I assume it's all good and safe to use?

I had a R7000 not long after they was released, Bought one in 2014, had it for years and regret getting rid of it.

Just hope it holds up to todays online demands.

Re: New - R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.216 Released

Just loaded it on my R7000 and running with it now.

I think there maybe some odd issues for wireless bridge mode. I know prior versions, wireless bridge mode would fail after a period of time. I can't test that right now.

It's up and running in router mode for now.

Re: New - R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.216 Released

Thank you for verifying this. Much appreciated. I was concerned NG pulled 216 perhaps because it was a hacked version. Just speculation on my part, there's no evidence to support that theory.

I've been running 216 from about a week after it was released back in Feb. Have not had any issues with it thus far.

Re: New - R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.216 Released

No hacking here. I think NG recently changed the support WEB ui look and feel and maybe something just got left off the plate. I see now that this version has not returned to the R7000 download web page.

Enjoy.

Re: New - R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.216 Released

All,

Does anyone know why the Netgear App does not recognize there is a new update so it can be uploaded via the app?  The last two updates did not show up in the app and I only discovered them after having issues with the router.  This should be unnecessary if the app has a "CHECK FOR UPDATES" function.

Would this happen to be because you need a paid subscription even though updates are not part of the ProSupport Subscription?  Thoughts?

Re: New - R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.216 Released

I don't think NG is putting FW up on there auto update services for the R series anymore. If new FW comes out, has to be manually applied.

Re: New - R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.216 Released

Hi!
I have the NG R7000 router, but i don't have updated years long because after one the FW update the Media server function was gone. (I have downgraded to V1.0.9.42_10.2.44 back again)
I would like know in this 1.0.11.216 firmware update is the Media Server, and Download (bittorrent) functions are working again?
Thanks for the answer.
