Nighthawk R6400 dropping connection
I purchased my router several years ago and most of that time it has had a problem randomly dropping the internet connection requiring me to reboot the router. I logged directly into the router to change the channels on the 2G and 5G aftering using the Netgear Wifi app to detect the best channel with less traffic. I have also checked to make sure I have the latest firmware. I am tired of rebooting it and don't know whether the router is no good or if there is something I can do to resolve this. Sometimes I can go 5 or 10 days before I have to reboot the router other times it is daily.
Does anyone have any ideas before I go out and buy a $300 gaming router from another brand?

Re: Nighthawk R6400 dropping connection
What actual firmware number are you on? the latest isn't always the best.
What modem is it connected to?
Since it started, have you tried a factory reset and reinstall?

Re: Nighthawk R6400 dropping connection
There is a newer version. I'd try installing that over a hardwired connection, then the factory reset/reinstall.

Re: Nighthawk R6400 dropping connection
Hi - I am having the same problems as the OP. Currently on Firmware V1.0.4.106_10.0.80
I have owned this router for about 18 months. It worked fine for the first 8 months or so. Now is a different story. Everything works for 24 to 48 hours, then the router drops the internet connection via ethernet to ISP hardware. If I connect directly to the ISP, internet connection is fine, but the router is not passing the internet to equipment on "my side". Rebooting the router, either via the software interface, or physically unplugging it works, but I am trying to find a more permanent solution as this can happen any time of the day or night. I rely on the internet connection to work from home and we use it at night for our TV.
I have not tried resetting to factory defaults as I can't afford the downtime during the week and making sure everything is reset again to work correctly.
I have set permanent channel for the 2.4Ghz of 1, and channel 36 for the 5Ghz wireless as suggested by my ISP to reduce possiblity of interference. I live in the country with no nearby neighbors, so that's not an issue.
Any help is appreciated.

Re: Nighthawk R6400 dropping connection
I bought a new ASUS router from Best Buy and have not had an issue with dropping Wifi. I'd say this is a Netgear issue. Save yourself the trouble and buy a different router.
