I would like to change the channel on My Nighthawk R6700, but the router login is not accepting my password. So I tried the steps to recover the password, but it is not working either.
- In the address field of your browser, type www.routerlogin.net.
- A login window open.
- Click the Cancel button.
- If password recovery is enabled, you are prompted to enter the serial number of the router.
- The serial number is on the product label.
- Enter the serial number of the router.
- Click the Continue button.
- A screen displays requesting the answers to your security questions.
- Enter the saved answers to your security questions.
- Click the Continue button.
- A screen displays your recovered password.
- Click the Login again button.
- A login window opens.
- With your recovered password, log in to the router.
It gets stuck on step 7 - click the continue button but nothing happens. I did enable password recovery and saved the answers to my security questions when I first setup the router.
I factory reset the router, but it didn’t bring it back to it’s original setting.
Any suggestions?

That's wrong. A reset really should get you back to the defaults.
Try this:
- Press reset for 30 seconds
- Keep pressing reset while removing power
- Keep pressing reset for another 30 seconds while apply power
The loop you got stuck in is a Netgear bug/feature. If password recovery is on, but the iuser hasn't t set up some answers, it keeps going round in circles.

Re: Nighthawk R6700 password recovery
Well done.
It is your call, but when you get in there, check pout the password recovery thing. Don't leave it on with no security answers set. Either set up the answers or turn that feature off.
That's what I do on the grounds that there is no one near me to hack into the router.

Re: Nighthawk R6700 password recovery
I setup the password recovery (and answers) after the reset. 🙂 This has been strange because I did the same thing when I first installed the router, and I printed out the answers but perhaps the system never saved it.
Just know I deeply appreciate your help!
