Nighthawk R7000P is capping my Steam download speeds and I don't know why

I get about 600Mbps bandwidth from my ISP and when connected directly to my modem, I see speeds up to 74Mbps.

When I'm connected directly to my Nighthawk R7000P, I still see bandwidth speeds around 600Mbps but for some reason Steam downloads will not exceed 20Mbps.

I have searched tirelessly online for a solution but have found none. Can someone please help?

You are comparing two different units of measure.  From your ISP you are indicating 600 Mbps (megabit per second).  For your other numbers you are indicating MB/s (megabyte per second).

There are 8 bits in a byte.  So, 600 Mbps compares reasonably well to 74 MB/s or 592 Mbps.

There is a difference between mbps and mb/s.  The later is usually indicative of megabyte and the former megabit.  See attached.

Not really. The image is hopelessly confusing.

Read it again. It makes no claims about

"/" versus "per"

They are identical. As in miles per hour or miles/hour.

That choice depends on the "style" of the publication involved. In its documentation,

Netgear usually uses Mbps.

In the scientific world that I hang around the difference is between:

Mbps and MBps

Or

Mb/s and MB/s

That is also what your image shows.

In all cases, mbps is hopelessly wrong in this context. It should be M all round.

m = micro (ie microwatt)

M = Mega (ie megawatt)

The bit that matters is the b versus B.
