I have had this R8000 X6S AC4000 router for a few months and just bought a new Seagate backup plus portable HDD 4TB, model STHP4000400. I can plug it into either the 3.0 or 2.0 ports. The HDD indicator light comes on - it is getting power via the USB, but the router simply does not see it at all. I have not tried any other drives on this router - I don't own any other drives.
I have firmware V1.4.1.50_1.3.10.
I checked for the drive via the routerlogin, advanced options for readyshare storage and downloaded the ready share software. Neither know the drive exists.
When I plug the drive into my PC, the PC sees it no problem, 4 TB of storage, etc.
I feel like I might be missing something obvious, like 'enable the USB port via some switch or option'. but I Can't find anything obvious.
I looked through other posts, and did not find a solution.

With which file system? (Hint: exFAT may not be the best answer.)
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Read. Look for "Share a USB
Storage Device Attached to the Router" and "USB Device Requirements".

No actual information there. Perhaps you selected the wrong "other
posts".

Re: Nighthawk R8000 not seeing USB drive
yeah... I knew I was overlooking something very simple. The drive comes formatted as exFat... reformatted it to NTFS, works like a charm.
Thanks
