Nighthawk R8000P Inconsistent Connection

Last night my router began disconnecting from the internet every 2-3 minutes and it's been nonstop. The internet light does flick amber for 1-2 seconds when this occurs. I've attempted turning everything off and back on to no avail, as well as rebooting the router via the mobile app. Curious how to troubleshoot this.

If the Internet LED turns AMBER, this means that the ISP modem or ONT is not getting or giving good internet services to the NG router. Something to have the ISP take a look and ensure there side of the ISP equipment is working good up to the modem or ONT.

Try this:

Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:

  • Turn off and unplug modem.
  • Turn off router and computers.
  • Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
  • Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
  • Turn on computers and rest of network.

It is a simple move that takes a few minutes.

Did you find a solution to the issue you posted. I am having the same issue with connectivity. My 2.4ghz keeps showing connected without internet. My ISP has checked my modem and connection and said it's fine must be my router. I have tried restarting my modem and then my router. The 2.4ghz works for less than an hour and does the same thing. The 5ghz is working fine.

The symptoms you describe don't seem to be anything like those for @Ace76. who hasn't been seen here since their first message.

Perhaps you could tell us a bit more about your network.

What is it that says "connected without internet"?

Then the usual boilerplate questions to eliminate some of the more common issues that crop up here.

What firmware version do you have on the device?

A number is more useful than "the latest". There may be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware with an app or in the browser interface.

If there is one it might also help if you told people the make and model number of the modem/gateway/ONT that connects this router to the Internet. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?

I ask because a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.
