Nighthawk r7000 periodically drops 2.4ghz and switches to 5G
Hello,
In the last month or so, my family and I noticed on our phones and tablets/laptops the wifi will drop from 2.4 and switch to the 5G. I checked the router for firmware updates but I already have it set to auto-update any new firmware. currently, I'm on the latest which is Firmware version V1.0.11.126_10.2.112.
Nothing has changed regarding the router position, nothing is broken on the router or obstructing the router. I've rebooted the router a couple of times also in trying to fix this but it will happen periodically all week, maybe about 2-3 times a week
My daughter sees the single change on her Ipad, My wife Android S10, my S20, Samsung tab 10 (All running the latest apple and android OS) and both our laptops are running windows 11.

If you're using smart connect, its actually your phones doing it as 5ghz has less interference and a much faster network than 2.4ghz.

Re: Nighthawk r7000 periodically drops 2.4ghz and switches to 5G
Hi and thanks for the reply but my Smart Connect has never been enabled because it's unchecked and I confirmed it's unchecked again today before I sent this post. I should have written that in my initial post.
I've also had this router for about 2-3 years and this recently started.

Re: Nighthawk r7000 periodically drops 2.4ghz and switches to 5G
You can always go into your devices and erase the 5ghz band from their remember networks if you don't want them connected to it.
maybe it was something updated on the devices that causes them to prefer the 5ghz network.
You could also try changing the channel on the 2.4ghz. Maybe something is causing interference on that network
