Happy New year !!!
My friend did try to install DD-WRT but I'm not aware if that caused this issue in the first place, it was not successful based on the router's control panel being unavailable.
I tried 30-30-30 rest, there wasn't any change. So I moved to installing FW both Official and Voxel's, still no luck.
Let me know the last resort item, hope that works

Ok, was hoping something would change that.
Last ditch effort here.
The R9000 and XR700 are same HW and code base. I had a XR700 that I bought off fleabay in hopes I could load NG stock FW. Ya, thought wrong. XR700 was busted after I loaded NG stock FW on it. Seems the DDWRT FW changes the NVram configurations around causing problems if NG stock FW is loaded. WIFI Radios were notworking among other things. I had no idea if I could get that fixed until I ran cross this gem:
After downgrading the FW and getting telnet running, I had the XR700 up and running with in minutes and wifi radios came back and working great. Thought I had a bad router that I paid too much for. All good now.
Let see if this helps your R9000. Load up NG stock FW and a old version that has telnet.

I tried those commands over telnet but that did not help. I think the router is gone now, I'll hand over the router to my friend. Thanks for your support

Might ask your friend to check out the resources mentioned over on smallnetbuilders forum where most of that data came from. Might someone there or something that get help with that. Could just a slight difference in commands too.
Good Luck.
