Hi,
Never had an issue before with the R7000, but after the V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 update I have no wireless 2.4Ghz devices connected to the router. 5Ghz works fine, but most of my devices do not support this. My whole domotica network is no longer accessible because it uses 2.4Ghz for the user interface.
Reading some of the forum entries it seems some 2.4Ghz fixes may have been applied in this update, but it killed my network.
What to do? Going back to the previous version might not be a good idea for security reasons, but I'll do it temporarily anyway.
Bye,
Rudi

Yes, it does, but it's well documented on this forum that certain firmware updates are incompatible with the settings from previous versions. Chalk it up to Netgear's unwillingness to fix their configuration subsystem to be backwards and forwards compatible.

Re: No more 2.4 Wifi on R7000 Nighthawk after V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 update
Some additional information:
The 2.4 SSID is visible and when you attempt to connect to it, it takes along time, then fails.
From an Android devices it failes with "unable to obtain IP address"
From W10 it connects after a while, but "with no internet, secured"

Following this as mine is not completely out but fails daily needing a reset to bring it back up.

Re: No more 2.4 Wifi on R7000 Nighthawk after V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 update
Interesting news. (sorry I haven't tested this before I started the initial post, but people were working on the network and I didn't want to interfer).
After disabling/enabling the 2.4 radio, all WiFi devices connected without any problem.
So, no downgrade, just radio on/off/on.
Maybe I am now part of the group of R7000 owners that have intermittent problems 🙂
Anyway, I'm happy for now. Let's see what happens in the next few days.

Re: No more 2.4 Wifi on R7000 Nighthawk after V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 update
As expected from the experiences of other forum members: no 2.4 wireless this morning.
But honestly, a factory reset sounds like an advice from Microsoft on Windows. Mhh, your start button doesn't work, just do a reinstallation. Never mind the amount of work it takes.
This should not be neccesary on a quality product such as the R7000. My router holds a lot of additional settings including port forwarding and it is a lot of work to redo it.
I just went back to firmware version .23 and the wireless came up fine.
I'll stick to that version for now.

It's also well documented on this forum that a factory reset does nothing to remedy the issue being discussed here. I agree with rudiklein, and have often used the Microsoft analogy as well.

I downgraded yesterday but did not help. Then i did factory reset on top of that and it has helped so far so it does seem necessary.
That may be true, and is perhaps necessary to fix this issue given the state of the router and its firmware today. However, that wasn't the suggestion I was replying to. The suggestion I replied to mentioned nothing of a firmware downgrade. The suggestion was "do a factory reset" after a firmware upgrade.
I would go further: "do a factory reset" is a convenient but inexcusable cop-out by software support staff. Allowing a system to get into an invalid state is a hallmark of bad design. People have become all too accepting of "just wipe clean" to cure problems. We shouldn't reward bad design by being the willing accomplices to enable a company's profits on a bad design choice. "Factory reset" should be a last-resort admission of failure on the part of a company when supporting its products, not a standard troubleshooting step.

Everybody, thanks for the help.
It is what it is: bad design is the cause, factory reset the solution.
(The downgrade didn't help, but you probably guessed that already.)
I'll have some typing to do tonight.....

James,
Can you please clarify? The release notes explicitly say "Security fixes." The issue reported in this message is a connectivity bug. Can you affirm that this firmware does contain a change that may fix the issues reported in this thread? Or are you just hoping that it does?

I'm certainly not installing any update yet until I hear from multiple people it fixes both the loss of wifi and the speed loss encountered in the 5GZ range.

Does it fix the loss of speed on the 5gz range? This has also existed for a couple releases.

Re: No more 2.4 Wifi on R7000 Nighthawk after V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 update
Well, I can confirm that the V1.0.9.18_1.2.27 FW did not fix the issue simply uploading it to the router. Within 2 hours I started suffering the same problem. I've since then went ahead and factory reset it and reset the router up from scratch. So we'll see how that goes.

Re: No more 2.4 Wifi on R7000 Nighthawk after V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 update
I can also confirm this does not fix the issue*. Flashed this late last night, worked fine this morning but 5GHz was not working by the time I got back from work until I rebooted the router.
*Technically 2.4ghz hasn't dropped for me yet, so it's possible issues with the 2.4ghz band have been fixed.
Edit: 2.4GHz just dropped not two hours after reboot to fix 5GHz

No go on the FW fix. It worked for about an hour after a factory reset and started dropping the 2.4G devices.

Hi Netabc123,
Just confirm that reset has been done after the update?
How many devices are affected?

Re: No more 2.4 Wifi on R7000 Nighthawk after V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 update
Hi,
I have rebooted, but not yet done a factory reset. I will do so later when there's less traffic on the network.
For me, the issue isn't device specific, rather it is band specific. When the 2.4GHz band has issues, all my devices are unable to obtain an ip via the 2.4GHz network. Same thing happens to the 5GHz network (different SSID). As far as I'm aware, the timing the of the issues occur randomly and can only be fixed with a reboot or applying a change to the router. There are times I can use both bands and times when it's one or the other.
