Open ALL ports - Nighthawk X6 R8000
I have the : Nighthawk X6 R8000
I want to make it so that all it does is issue IP addresses internally. So I have 1 PUBLIC FACING IP address that is issued by the CABLE MODEM AKA CPE (Customer PRemise equipment) I want the ROUTER to ONLY route I do not wish to have any PORT filtering activated. I can filter my own ports on my computer / server . The problem I am having is SLOW data speeds and I think the port forwarding / filtering is slowing down my 1gb connection from 1gb to 400mbps so thats a but of a slowdown simply by the router. I have all the latest firmare etc on the router, I have CAT 7 cables on every port to every computer. My computer has 8 cores 32 GB ram so there is no bottle neck there also has a 1gb network card. When connected directly to the CPE my speeds are as they should be when connected to this ;Nighthawk X6 R8000 then they slow to nothing.

Re: Open ALL ports - Nighthawk X6 R8000
Ports don't effect speed. Connection rates, cable quality and ISP service signals do.
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Do you get near 900Mpbs with a wired PC connected to the ISP modem?

Re: Open ALL ports - Nighthawk X6 R8000
Its an ONT from VERIZON I-211M-L
and yes directly wired to the ONT it igets well over 900 MBPS but once you add the NETGEAR it slows down
Todays speed test as I write this is even worse for some reason.. as shown below.. Not even 1/4 of what I am to be getting. This is the 2nd
of these routers I have had with the same result. It MUST be some type of FIRMWARE or setting casuing this issue.

Re: Open ALL ports - Nighthawk X6 R8000
Wow all this time has passed and STILL i have the same problem with my OVERPRICED Netgear router. Not a issue with the ISP. As the direct connect speeds are over 900 and when you put the router into the mix. BOOM slow as snail POOP.
SO I am asking again. IS there a way to OPEN ALL PORTS for ALL connections? I think this is the issue that I can not do this.
The firmware is UP TO DATE.
If I could get static IPs I would not have a router.. Just a Unmanaged Switch. Thought about buying a new router at best buy but then was like WHY I paid over $250 for this one and its garbage. Not going to pay $500 to have the same experience.
Netgear is Useless to chat with about the issue they cant even understand what I am saying on the phone. I think its time for a BBB complaint.

Re: Open ALL ports - Nighthawk X6 R8000
Mines working fine:
You should need to open ANY ports for speed testing. Ports don't effect speed. Connection rates, cable quality and ISP service signals do.
Would need more information before claiming its' the router. Many factors contribute to ANY router not working well.

Re: Open ALL ports - Nighthawk X6 R8000
What FW version are you using?
I got a R8000 with v.62 and have not seen any speed issues:

Re: Open ALL ports - Nighthawk X6 R8000
AH ok, you might downgrade to v.62, I saw bad DNS issues with v.76 loaded.
Is this your ONT? https://statuslights.com/statuslights.php?vendor=Verizon&device=FIOS%20Alcatel-Lucent%20I-211M-L%20G...
If you downgrade, I would factory reset and setup from scratch and be sure to not enable Armor, Circle, QoS or Traffic Meter.

Re: Open ALL ports - Nighthawk X6 R8000
Possible there maybe a problem between this router and the ONT.
Any chance you have a friend, neighbor or family member that has a different ISP service that doesn't have this ONT and see if this router would operate differently at a different location with a different ISP service? Could be telling if the problem follows the router or not...
