Problems with VPN from Android device

Nighthawk R6900, Firmare: V1.0.1.28_1.0.21

I was recently able to set up VPN following the instructions in the router software.  

Using my laptop, I am able to connect to my home VPN without difficutly.

I tried to set up OpenVPN Connect on my Android device, but have been having problems.  I did see this article and followed the instructions:

On my Android device, when I use OpenVPN Connect, I am able to connect to the VPN, and the log file shows no obvious errors that I can find.  However, when connected to the VPN, I am not able to access the internet.  I can open the browser on my Android phone and connect to the home router (192.168.1.1) without a problem. However, if I try to go to a different web site, check my email, or update my twitter feed, these all fail.  

Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks!
