R6260. Says it connects to cable but will not connect to internet

We have dsl. The router given to us by dsl sucked so was told to buy a better router. Bought the R6260 hooked it up and it connec 5t s to the cable but not internet. We dont have a modem so the dsl cable is hooked directly to the netgear router. When I go to advance settings and put in the poe name and password we have it still doesn't connect. Anyone with the know how to fix this? I'm lost when it comes to IT....

   Has it a maker and model number?  Who, exactly, is "dsl"?

   Did you notice that the phone/DSL cable connector was not a good fit
in the Ethernet port on the R6260?  There's a reason for that.

   For DSL service, you need a DSL modem of some type.  In many cases,
you can configure a DSL modem+router as a modem-only, and use some other
router with it.  With my weak psychic powers, I can't confidently say
much about your (unspecified) "The router given to us by dsl".

The old router isnt the problem so info on the old router really doesn't matter. The name of the company is literally DSLbyAir. We DO NOT have a modem. Just a router. I took the internet cable out of the old router and plugged it into the R6260 router I just bought, ran the app set up and it says cable connected internet not connected went to the advanced settings like it says to do and put in the ppoe info it ask for but it still wont connect. Idk what other info I could give you. If you cant provide me with any helpful advice it's cool politely just move along.
