We've been having the same issue that's been reported about browsing the web and running into the message "This site cannot be reached" DNS issue when I updated to R6400v2 Firmware Version 1.0.4.118 and 1.0.4.120.
Reverting back to version 1.0.4.106 solves these issues.

Thanks for posting. The more that are on here with that issue, the more likely the mod's/engineers will see it.

Re: R6400v2 Firmware Version 1.0.4.118 and 1.0.4.120
You're welcome! I tried contacting support directly, but after entering in my serial number, my 90 day window of complimentary support is over and unfortunately there is no other way of sending them a bug report.
Wife and daughter mentioned that they had to restart the router a couple times during the following day I upgraded to the 120 version of the firmware due to the internet going out, but I wasn't home so I can't say exactly what went out; WiFi, Ethernet, or both.

I can also confirm I am seeing internet outages on certain devices with the 118 and 120 updates. Rolling back to 106 seems to fix this. I am using the Circle parental controls.

Do you happen to perform a factory reset after v120 was applied and setup from scratch to see if problem still appeared?

No factory reset performed. If someone can confirm that reset resolves this problem I will try it.
If I have to set up from scratch, it would be less wasteful of my time to use a known working router.

Well resets are a valid troubleshooting step to see if it resolves issues after FW updates. Seen many issues resolved after FW updates.
Users choice though.
Good Luck.

Re: R6400v2 Firmware Version 1.0.4.118 and 1.0.4.120
The fact that this firmware version breaks the device and all support is a premium beyond 90 days... I won't buy a Netgear router ever again. The paranoid part of me feels like this is planned obsolescence. Does anyone have a link to a site where I can get the last stable firmware version? The only other version I see hosted on Netgear is a beta version 1.0.4.92_10.0.67.

If you go to the support site, click on downloads, and the "+view previous versions"
that'll get you the older ones.

Re: R6400v2 Firmware Version 1.0.4.118 and 1.0.4.120
I finally decided to switch back to ASUS since I usually had good history with them and I don't know when or even if they will fix this DNS issue since it's been a few months now.
Upon replacement, I noticed that we we're getting at or even over our provisioned speed of 600 Mbps with the new router after conducting speed tests on both wired and wireless (If I'm near the router). I don't know what the R6400 was rated up to, but I would get a solid 400 Mbps on wireless if I was standing right in front of the device.
So for us, the performance improvement is enough to upgrade. I can't speak for other NETGEAR models, only this one.
Best of luck to those having the same issue.

Re: R6400v2 Firmware Version 1.0.4.118 and 1.0.4.120
I came here searching to find out more about the most recent Security Update for the firmware and came across your post. I have had that DNS problem as well...the DNS resolution does occur, but it's super annoying to first see the page saying it's not available. I spent HOURS doing troubleshooting to nail down the source of the issue. I even had my ISP come out...and they gave me a new Modem. Nothing fixed it, until I manually modified my DNS servers for my WiFi Connection.
For Windows 10, this is what I did:
1) Search for the Network and Sharing Center (easiest way is to Right Click "Network" in Windows Explorer")
2) Select "Change Adaptor Settings" on the Left Menu.
3) Double-click your Wifi connection and then choose Properties.
4) Scroll down to Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) and double-click.
5) Instead of using "Obtain DNS Server address automatically", I selected "Use the following DNS server addresses".
6) Input 8.8.8.8 in Preferred DNS Server and 8.8.4.4 in Alternate DNS Server.
This solved the issue for my computer and another one in the house. Maybe the firmware upgrades are inadvertently affecting the DNS rerouting that normally ocurrs when it obtains the DNS server automatically from our ISPs. It was a VERY frustrating problem for sure!

Re: R6400v2 Firmware Version 1.0.4.118 and 1.0.4.120
Glad you got it working. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
