I read that A LOT of people are having issues after theis new firmware update, Hope it gets fixed quickly. Our entire home runs off this and husband is a college student that can't direct connect to the router since office is upsatirs with double monitors. So no TV, Music, Ipads, Wifi for phones.... yeah I know earth shattering stuff here lol but we live out in podunk nowhereville.
Anywho... please advise on how to unmerge the two networks, please! (running newest IOS on ALL devices)
Thanks so much!

A few things to try.
Did you reset the router to factory settings after the firmware flash?
New firmware sometimes introduces changes that are not compatible with the old configuration.
So while it isn't guaranteed to fix things a factory reset is the first thing to try if you have problems with new firmware.
You can backup your settings before you reset and restore them later. But that may just bring back the fault. Then again, at least you will know if the reset fixed the problem.
If you still have problems you can roll back to the previous firmware.
To get the device to seperate the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wifi, get into the controls and allocate different SSIDs.
There is support material, including a manual, for the R7000 somewhere at the end of this link:

See page 55 onwards.
As an aside, has your husband considered using Powerline Ethernet to feed the office from the router? Powerline turns your mains circuit into a LAN. It can deliver better performance than wifi, especially when you want to connect stuff that does not move around.

Re: R7000
You are posting about R7000 and you have R6700 in the bottom remarks for which either model you have you would need to get the manual for it and turn off the smart connect feature that should return both bands back to you.

Re: R7000
Michael,
Thanks much! Got it all back up to speed. Running better now than when we first got the router, speeds are 35% faster. We will look into Powerline ASAP 👍🏻
Thanks again!
