Firmware 1.0.4.30 and 1.0.4.28 tried for weeks at a time.
Wireless devices connected to 5ghz band are all working perfectly and have been since i purchased this router at the beginning of June ...

Good news! We now have a production version of firmware that should resolve the 2.4 GHz issue, v1.0.5.64. You may download this firmware from our R7000 page here: http://downloadcenter.netgear.com/en/product/R7000#searchResults
As IrvSp correctly notes, this version of firmware fixes the 2.4 GHz issue and reinstates the new features, such as Kwilt, Smart Connect, and WiFI Transmit Power Control. It does not support Arlo. We hope to have a beta version that supports Arlo in the next two weeks.
We welcome any feedback you provide on this new firmware, and appreciate your patience as we resolved these issues. Thank you all for supporting the R7000 and NETGEAR!

Hi Tim - thanks for your feedback. You are correct about the firmware. Through the contributions of people on this thread, we discovered a couple of bugs in the most recent version of firmware. We removed that firmware version from our site.
We encourage any customers who are experiencing issues to download version 1.0.4.30 from our website. If you are not having any issues, there is no need for you to change your firmware.
We have a release candidate version of firmware that we think resolves the bugs, and we hope to release this into production soon.
I apologize for inconveniencing everyone. I am extremely grateful to everyone on this thread who raised this issue.
Thank you!
Nifer

Any idea when I can download the latest corrected firmware version directly via my router? Thanks.

I don't think you will be able to do it directly, as there is not yet a new version to correct the 1.0.6.28 problems. You will have downgrade by going to downloadcenter.netgear.com and search for the available downloads by router model. 1.0.4.28 and 1.0.4.30 appear to be the latest stable versions. This will get you a .zip file which you can unpack in Windows simply by double clicking on it, and extracting the .chk file to a known disk location.
Then you login to your router and through the advanced menu, you will be able to change the FW by browsing to the location on your PC you saved the .chk file to.

Thanks, rpoffen, for your detailed response!
We hope to have updated firmware in about two weeks that should fix this issue. We have a release candidate that has passed functional testing and is now in QA testing.
As soon as we have a production-ready fix, I'll post a link on this thread to the download center.
I apologize for the problem with the last release and appreciate everyone's patience with us. Thank you for improving our software quality.

Thanks for the update.
Have the QA tests been updated to catch 2.4GHz issues so this issue never happens again?

Thanks for keeping me posted on the issue I was having with my Netgear R7000 router after updating to the new firmware. I am glad to hear that Netgear is working on it and will have a fix in a couple weeks. I backward upgraded my firmware to V1.0.48 and everything is working fine now. I do understand that comapnies need to keep up to support more people using the latest devices and need to provide firmware to support these. However, I am disappointed that when I called them with my 5 month old (stil under warranty) router that they wanted to charge me additinal money to receive phone support to resolve my issue. I feel that they need to step up when they released a firmware updae that was faulty and provide me the phone support I was asking for. I want to thank everyone on this community forum to help me solve my problem. I am going to hold off on any new firmware releases until Netgear says it has been fixed and I am also hearing the same from everyone on this forum.
Thanks again for your help.

Nifer, thanks for keeping us posted on this fix. I'd recommend one other thing: since so many of us only upgraded our firmware due to the multiple email messages received from Netgear, it would be a good public relations move to send out another email with apology for the mistake. This should be followed by notification of the fix as soon as available.
I've been happy enough with Netgear routers over the years that I'm willing to wait for the fix since I've stabilized using 1.4.30 release. Many others might not be so inclined unless Netgear takes positive steps to acknowledge the frustration they've caused so many people. Customer service is the only way to keep long-term customers when problems arise. Your marketing team should be working on this message just as hard as they worked to push the Arlo architecture out to all of us unsuspecting users.

Jblackst2800, I'm happy to hear that the earlier version of firmware is working for you.
Hajster, I think you have a good point. I'm checking with marketing regarding how best to communicate this, as well as evaluating how to prevent this from happening again,
I just received an update from QA a couple of hours ago. This past weekend's testing proceeded uneventfully, with no issues found to date, increasing my hope that we can release updated firmware by the end of this week.
Again, thanks to you all for your patience and assistance.

Hi Stuckincube, yes. We have changed both our functional testing and QA testing. I spent nine years as an R&D engineer with NETGEAR before moving to support, so I agree with and appreciate your systematic approach to testing.

A few of you have been willing to test the release candidate firmware and I think we've provided it to all who are interested. We hope to complete the QA in the next few days and have the production version available soon. If there is anyone else who would like to test this version of firmware, you may download it here: http://files.netgear-support.com/go/index.php?action=d&step=3
Please note that release candidate (beta) firmware is not final firmware and may contain bugs.
if you download the firmware, please share your experience on this thread or send me a private message, so that we can all benefit.
Thank you again for your patience!
