Oh and then what do you mean by doing a reset ? With a paper clip at the back of the router, the 30-30-30 thing ? Because if that 's the way, what's à factory reset then ? I mean, isn't it supposed to revert to the original firmware ? Or is there a different reset ?

I think I did a factory reset. I used the paper clip in the back for 30 seconds. I did this twice, first time didn't seem to work. It wiped my confuration but left me with the latest firmware. I'm not sure what the 30-30-30 is but my goal was to simple wipe my configuration, not downgrade FW. Does that make sense?

A factory reset only wipes configuration.  It does NOT downgrade firmware.

I lost them too, turning off security they now work on all devices, but of course that is not satisfactory!

All devices connect on mine by just disabling security, of course that is inacceptable!

So you confirm that with the SSID disabled, your devices cannot connect to the network? That you have to enable the broadcast for them to be on the network?

My android tablets and my Kindles can't connect IF the SSID isn't broadcasted. I haven't had the time to check with my laptop running Win10. I'll do that tonight. But since it was working before and I haven't changed their configurations, it has to be the R7000 somewhere...

After playing around with 5.52 and 6.28 both of them did not work for me - which is kind of interesting as I do nothing specail with the router - no guest wlan, no port forwarding - just plain simple WLAN router. Anyway, 6.28 was super looooow on UI, downgraded to 5.53 and lost my 5Ghz - and yes, did multiple factory resets per menue and button and reconfigured manually,. I now went back to 4.28 as it simply seems to do what it is supposed to do. The only interesting thing I came across is that it keeps losing assigned names to WLAN clients when it comes to access management. Good luck all ...

I'll have to check in the morning, but my speedtest.net was 200Mb slower than before... But it might be because the servers were... busy.

Hi-ho - with UI I mean User Interface, means menues of the firmware front end - no the throughput. So under 6.28 the whole user interface was pretty slow on response for me - regardless if connecting wireless or wired. Hope this clarifies.

It does and that's what I thought UI was but I wanted to be sure. 6.28 is as fast as the other firmwares for me. At least, not that I could notice.

How was the throughput for you, compared to say 4.28.

Honestly i did not measure throughput in detail - neither WAN nor wireless - in the end it looked like 6.28 was stable on 2.4 but shaky on 5 Ghz as I had recent connection drops. This turned to be worse with 5.52 but runs perfect under 4.28 I am now back with.

And as said I always did full 30-sec resets before and after upgrade incl. manual re-config....

Take my advice :

perform factory reset

load  R7000-V1.0.4.28_1.1.64 firmware 

Perform factory rest

Done

   This is the most stable trouble free firmware for the R7000 period. These additions of Arlo camera,

network steering etc are not working and causing other problems. I did speed tests with the

R7000-V1.0.4.28_1.1.64 vs the latest and there ia no difference. The 28 firmware is rock

solid. Just try it.

I think I have no choice anyway, now I can't even log in to the router admin page and for a short time I even lost my 5Ghz signal too.  I have to say, this is pretty bad form by Netgear.

Do a hardware reset of your device. Press a reset button on router and stay pressed for 30 seconds till LED's began to blink. After reseting install your router again. It should work normally.

It doesn't, even after a factory reset after upgrading to 1.0.6, the issues come back. I can't access the router's GUI.

Try this. I have the same issue. The router page will be accessible from your wifi laptop or mobile phone. Access the router over wifi and change it to wireless AP mode from router mode. Once the router reboots it becomes accessible via lan also on your desktop. But please make sure you have another router with dhcp enabled and connected to your r7000. For me this was the only way to access the router after several hard resets. Even restoring the 1.0.4.28 firmware and resetting the router does not fix this. Please confirm if this worked for you.

Out of curiosity, why do you want to access your router with this IP? After a reset, should be 192.168.1.1, right?

My AT&T Uverse modem uses 192.168.1.1 as its IP and assigns 10.0.0.1 to the router via DHCP. 

I just prefer using 10.0.0.X for my home network. Even after doing a factory reset on the R7000 it detects that my router is assigned 10.0.0.1 and sets itself up correctly.

Mmmmh... I see. Weird configuration though, I think.

I have configured my cable as a bridge, so the R7000 gets the public IP, and I assign its private IP myself.

At least I wouldn't let the modem attribute the private IP...

Have you tried to set it up yourself? No DHCP, fixed private IP?

1. You should configure AT&T Uverse modem as a bridge. Or disconnect (temporarily) a cable between this modem and WAN port of R7000.

2. Do another factory reset of R7000.

3. Try to connect (from internal R7000 network of course) using a browser via 192.168.1.1 address or via routerlogin.net
