R7000 as a WAP

I have just gotten this R7000 wifi router to work alongside my Nighthawk C7000v2 as an Access Point.  When I try to follow the instructions in this article...

https://kb.netgear.com/24104/How-do-I-change-my-Nighthawk-router-to-AP-mode-after-I-ve-already-run-s...

I keep logging into my Netgear genie for the C7000, I can't get to the genie for the R7000

Is there somthing else I need to do to get to the one I need to???

Thanks

Tim

Configuring an R7000 WAP will give it a new LAN IP address.  By
default ("Get dynamically from existing router"), it'll get that new
address from (the DHCP server in) your main router (C7000).  Hence, an
an "Attached Devices" report from your main router should tell you what
the new address of your R7000-as-WAP is.  Point your web browser at that
IP address.

It might improve convenience if you reserve a (memorable) LAN IP
address on the main router for the R7000-as-WAP. (Then restart.)  Look
for "Address Reservation" in the main-router User Manual.

Re: R7000 as a WAP

so.... when I run the ethernet wire from the C7000 to the "yellow" connection on the R7000, it does show up on my list of devices, but if I plug that url address into the search bar I get a "failed to open page" message.  If I plug the wire into any of the other LAN ports, like the above tutorial shows, it doesn't show up in the attached devices list.

What was the actual URL?  Modern browsers tend to favor
"https://<whatever>" over "http://<whatever>", but only
"http://<whatever>" will work in this situation.

I'd expect that.  Apparently, the R7000-as-WAP sends its DHCP request
out the WAN/Internet port, not any of the LAN ports.  That KB article is
pretty vague about the wiring.  (A yellow cable and a yellow port are
different things.)  That's why we read the User Manual.

Re: R7000 as a WAP

unfortunately adding http://.... doesn't make any difference, I was just typing 192.168.0.33 into the url window. I even tried using a different browser in case Safari was the issue, just trying anything.

As I had said, I did do a reset on it, is there something else or some other trick to try in the reset process??

Re: R7000 as a WAP

SOLVED!!!!

I had noticed that it was pumping out a wifi signal, so

I logged onto the wifi with my ipad then went to routerlogin.net which then got me to the genie page for the R7000 and from there i went through all the steps of changing passwords and wifi names and all that jazz.  I then moved it to another floor, plugged in the ethernet cable there adn then logged onto a computer using the wifi. So, I mainly had to be on the network of the login I wanted to get into.

When I went into the advanced settings I see that there is a "repeater" mode.... would this be a better option than AP, where it has a different wifi name?? would repeater use the same wifi name as the main router, so I would only have one???

Look for "repeater" in the User Manual.  Read the fine print:

Note: You cannot use the WPA2-PSK(AES), WPA-PSK(TKIP) +
WPA-PSK(AED) [sic], or WPA/WPA2 Enterprise security modes if you
want to enable this mode. [...]

If you want a wireless connection between the main router and the
R7000, and you don't care about wireless security, then that repeater
mode might be useful.
