Re: R7000 firmware version 1.0.5.64_1.1.88 released today

Since when V1.0.6.26_1.1.83 was a beta driver? It was the official driver that NG released and that many people had problem with. It's working perfect on my rig.

It's really stupid... Even if the newer driver are a step backward in terms of options, they should have upgraded the versions as it's supposed to be... V1.0.7 something... And so on.

First time I hear and see a newer driver with an older version 😮

Re: R7000 firmware version 1.0.5.64_1.1.88 released today

I suspect the drop back was because Arlo support was REMOVED and they worked off the LAST beta without Arlo support. Reason given was 'stability'. Normally later versions do NOT drop functions but add them, and that is probably the reason why. Need Arlo Support, call them, they seem to have a beta now with it and that will probably be in the next firmware official release.

Re: R7000 firmware version 1.0.5.64_1.1.88 released today

Welcome to the world of release branches.

Think of 1.0.6 as R2.0 in the picture, below, and 1.0.5 as R1.0.  The code they put into 1.0.6 was so buggy (interpret this as unfixable in a reasonable amount of time) that they decided to pull the whole release.  They actually pulled 1.0.5, too, but the situation must not have been so dire.  They fixed the main issues on 1.0.5 and put out a new release, shown as R1.1.  Eventually, they will release a patched version of 1.0.6.  This would be R2.1, which isn't shown in the picture, but it would be a bubble to the right of R2.0.

Netgear certainly could have given each new release a higher number regardless of the code base it's based on (a lot of companies do work this way) but then the versions we see and what they see internally would have diverged.  It's actually nice that Netgear didn't do this because it gives us some visibility into their release model.

Elaine, after reading R7000 firmware updates posts I am confused.... I currentmly have V1.0.6.28_1.1.83. Are you saying to revert back to 1.0.5.64...?

1.0.5.64_1.1.88 has been working well for me.   I have been using for 3 days now without any issues.    My usage is pretty basic: AP, Wi-Fi (2.4Ghz & 5Ghz), guest Wi-Fi, VPN.  This firmware also fixes the slow guest Wi-Fi for me (https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/Guest-WiFi-network-much-slower-than-normal-n...).

If you're not having any issue then it really depends on whether you can be bothered reverting back. The main issue is that if problems do emerge, your firmware is no longer supported.

I've noticed that GUI Language Versions reads V1.0.6.28_2.1.38.2 after upgrading to this firmware, is this expected? Firmware Version gives the correct number.

Does this firmware have time sync fix? I am running V1.0.5.49_20151208_timesync firmware.  Want to make sure before upgrading.

Re: R7000 firmware version 1.0.5.64_1.1.88 released today

When you upgraded, how did you setup the settings? Manually or load a settings backup file?

In any event it is possible the firmware load had a problem. I'd ERASE (Advanced, Administration, Backup Settings) the firmware settings and do the reset to default that way and THEN re-load the firmware (d/l it again to be safe) and install it. Then re-enter all your settings. I guess you could see if the version are correct before even re-entering the settings.

When you reset after a firmware upgrade do you need to input all the previouse reserved IP addresses?

Hello,

A reset restore the modem to the first state it was when you took it out of the box. So you have to reconfigure it the way you want it to be after.

Re: R7000 firmware version 1.0.5.64_1.1.88 released today

So is the fact that not many people are posting an indication that this firmware is working well?  I still haven't updated from 1.0.4.30.

How is the range on 2.4 and 5 GHz compared to 1.0.4.30?

Also, after upgrading is resetting in the GUI OK, or should I use the reset button?

Re: R7000 firmware version 1.0.5.64_1.1.88 released today

I'm curious about this as well. I avoided the whole last round of updates and stuck with 4.30 and glad I did. I don't want to update until i know it is problem free so hoping for some more feedback. The majority of the changes don't really appear to provide any signal improvement features.

Re: R7000 firmware version 1.0.5.64_1.1.88 released today

Hi,

After upgrading to R7000-V1.0.5.64_1.1.88 from R7000-V1.0.4.30_1.1.67 two bugs appeared till now:

- LAN setup page: Starting/Ending IP Address cannot be changed, it reverts back to default after apply/apply+restart every time.

- VPN Service: Cannot enable service or change ports, because error popup appears saying something like "not allowed port number, port number must be 65536 or less".

Re: R7000 firmware version 1.0.5.64_1.1.88 released today

Sort of a catch-22 here. Even if you see 'bad' reports you don't know why? Did they install over a newer  V1.0.5 or .6 beta that was removed/recalled and NOT reset and re-enter settings? Did they have other problems that might not bother your (DMZ usage, port forwarding, etc,). Do you like 'living on the bleeding edge' and willing to try something else to see if it is better? You'll never really know the percents of reports vs. content users... very few that have it working well will report such.

Then there is the old addage, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Unless one has made significant repeatable measurements of speed or power levels are different ranges on the SSID bands the answer you want is going to be hard to find, and even if they did, it would be in their environment only.

Re: R7000 firmware version 1.0.5.64_1.1.88 released today

Only problem I have had with this firmware is QoS.  When enabled it seems like latency on everything spikes up.  I just keep it turned off and everything is perfect.

Yes, I did reset to factory defaults after flashing and re-entered all settings manually.

How about a new FW update that includes Arlo support?

I've had to use 1.0.6.40 to allow Arlo to function. This is a very imporatnt feature for me.

Re: R7000 firmware version 1.0.5.64_1.1.88 released today

Hopefully you guys can help me.

I updated to the latest 1.0.5.64 firmware and ever since, I have had nothing but connectivity problems.

I used to have 1.06.28 and didn't have any problems.

This is what is happenning: Every so many minutes, all my wire connected computers lose access to the internet. I can see everything on my lan but nothing outside. Same goes for wireles at 2.4g. However, 5g works no problem. When I look at the GUI, it tells me I have internet access which is true but it doesn't share with the connected PC or 2.4.

I have updated the firmware, reset it and start from scratch, setting it up again. No matter what I try, it doesn't work.

I went back to 1.06.28 and the problem is still there although it took about 18 hours before losing internet from inside the lan.

Surely I can't be the only one with this problem?

Re: R7000 firmware version 1.0.5.64_1.1.88 released today

You went back to your old firmware and you still had the problem albeit less often?

But 5g has Internet 100% of the time for both firmware versions?

It sounds like a hardware problem with the router then...

Re: R7000 firmware version 1.0.5.64_1.1.88 released today

What's even weird is that when I went back a firmware, the GUI from the latest firmware was still present. That to me was an indication something was not kosher.

I gave up and bought a new one to see if it will do the same problem. Of course the firmware that was on that one was way older so I installed the 1.4.30 since I need VLAN access which the old version didn't have.

The old router hadn't connected to get my email since 2 in the morning. What's weird is that Skype could connect, certain websites too but not google. There are so many variables in this situation that I didn't know where to start. So hopefully, a new router will let me know where the problem is.

Pretty sad I had bought the other back in April of 2015 and if it is in fact the harware, that is pretty pathetic.

Re: R7000 firmware version 1.0.5.64_1.1.88 released today

Has anyone heard of any issues with port forwarding on 1.0.6.40?

I entered same rules I had from previous 1.0.6.28 version but can't get it to work correctly on this fw.

Re: R7000 firmware version 1.0.5.64_1.1.88 released today

Many issues, WiFi speeds slows down after seconds, WiFi signal is bad, download speed is about 10mb/s slower, GUI version is wrong, security bug , admin is still logged in after reboot router, QoS settings menu is terrible slow, WiFi range is worse than previous 3 firmwares , even I do everything manually, reset router ,flash firmware , reset router, all setting I put back manually, also bug for me, I use ppoe and password is plain text, nothing is hidden , for a 200 dollar I expected more....
