R7000 goes offline frequently

My R7000 bought a year ago is the most unreliable router I have ever had. Sometimes most devices go offline, sometimes just a few. Tonight I have done 2 resets. Google nest working but TV streaming has stopped. An hour or so ago my Google nest thermostat went off line now its OK but tv streaming has stopped mid program. Am on v116 of firmware. I rolled back from 128 because my device lists stopped showing some devices. I am getting to the point having spent £300+ on new router and modem to throwing it all away and buying a new set up - not netgear this time. In the meantime any suggestions would be welcome. I really don't the hassle of starting all over again.

Happens to me too.  It worked incredibly well for years and now I find the signal drops all of the time after the latest firmware update.

I've had to stop using it.

Re: R7000 goes offline frequently

@Richardat54  So I've owned my R7000 AC1900 router since Feb 2020 and up until the last update that Netgear pushed out, v.128, everything had been working just fine for me. Unfortunately, v.128 absolutely broke my 5ghz WiFi and so I rolled back to v.126 and everything has been just fine since. I will not be updating the firmware for future firmware releases. Netgear gets one chance with me and that's it. I just don't trust their firmware updates anymore and I've only had one bad experience out of six firmware updates.

As for your situation, well I'm assuming like me, you're in the UK? Who's your ISP? Why not just use your ISP router? I'm with BT and on FTTP and BT sent me their latest Hub and it's still in the box, never even took the sellophane off it. I don't use the BT router because I have literally zero control over it, but for most people, using the ISP provided router is ultimately the best option because they tend to be relatively trouble free. Plus you don't have to purchase a separate modem if you're on FTTC or ADSL because the ISP routers tend to have the modem built into the router anyway. As it happens, I have a 'As new' Draytek Vigor 130k modem sat in the box doing absolutely nothing which I really should stick on the auction site.

Besides, I've now completely upgraded my desktop with a new motherboard/CPU and it has WiFi 6 built in, so I'm currently looking for a good reliable WiFi 6 router. It won't be Netgear for me this time.

Re: R7000 goes offline frequently

Hi yes am in the UK and like you bought a Vigor modem. As i say frustration coumpounded by fact that central heating etc now controlled by Google Nest installed last week and so going off line not ideal. i am with Zen and i know there have not been many outages because they provide that info if you ask. Their router is a Fritzbox which is a solid piece of kit and very configurable and very reliable. The reason i switched was with two people WFH plus a 15+ other devices it struggled. Maybe wasnt the router who knows, but certainly the Nighthawk was better to start with. Was also attracted by security software on the router.

Intersting what you say about V126. Wasnt aware of that version, i will look at upgrading from 116 to 126 i think.

Re future it will defintely be mesh next time, probably Asus Zenwfi AX XT8 which is getting great reviews!

Re: R7000 goes offline frequently

I tried all new cables and moving router. Tried updating to latest version. Even worse! However now solved after I replaced nighthawk with Asus Xt8 mesh in same place with same cables. Works perfectly. Think I will steer clear of Netgear in the future. Sorry guys..
