Hi,
I just pick up an old R8000 (certainly with old firmware (I installed it a few years ago, perhaps 6 years, in my office)
I reset it, and wanted to setup it up at home.
I want to use it as a wifi + eth switch and not as router.
So I reset the R8000 (pressing the reset button for a few seconds).
The initial wifi network appears after a few minutes of booting.
With my laptop I connect on the netgear wifi.
Then I open up a browser and a page for configuring the R8000 appears.
BUT, once I choose to use it as acces point, I can change the ssid and password of the wifi, it reboots, and then impossible to login to the R8000
If I check the ip adresse of the R8000 (192.168.1.123) and try to connect to it : it says error 404, server error.
So impossible to get access to the Router to do an update or configure anything.
the routerlogin.net adress goes nowhere.
I try with nighthawk app on my phone, but the router can not be found !!!
So If someone can take a few moment to explain me how to do it ?
Thank you very much for your help.

Hi,
thankl you very much for all your answers.
I managed to do a reset and managed to update the firmware.
The way it worked : just wiring an ethernet cable between 1 of the 4 eth port and my laptop.
I accessed the router with 192.168.1.1
Now I can configure it.
Once again thank you very much for all your help.

Re: R8000 - impossible to install
Be sure to use the WAN port to connect the router to the host routers LAN port.
Try setting a static IP address configuration on the R series router instead of Dynamic. Try setting it to 192.168.1.80.
Is the host routers IP address sub net pool 192.168.1.x?

Re: R8000 - impossible to install
Try a factory reset on the router and then walk thru the setup wizard.
Then follow the PDF to setup AP mode for the .80 IP address, after you apply that, you should be able to log into the AP mode configuration at 192.168.1.80.
What FW version is on the router?

Re: R8000 - impossible to install
After a factory reset you should be able to start the web page at 192.168.1.1.

Re: R8000 - impossible to install
You can disconnect the R8000 from the ISP router and factory reset it while disconnected and have your one ethernet connected PC connected to the router and set it up with out it being connected to anything.

Re: R8000 - impossible to install
If it has been some time since the router was connected to power and in use, it may take a couple of times to get the firmware default (factory) reset to complete thoroughly.
No need to connect your router to another device. Set it on a desk and connect only the power cord for reset and configuration. After the reset, use the default SSID and password printed on the nameplate to connect over Wi-Fi. Check your computer to verify what IP address it has connected to. Use that address to enter the configuration page from your web browser.
Once you have set the mode as access point, save the changes and power down your R8000. Pull the power cord.
Now use an Ethernet cord and connect the WAN port of your R8000 to a LAN port on your primary router. Power up your R8000 and it will connect to your primary router with an IP address assigned by your primary router.
Check the connected devices on your primary router to determine what IP address was assigned to your access point (R8000). Use that IP address to log in to the configuration page of your access point.

Re: R8000 - impossible to install
Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
