R8000 losing speed

Losing speed between modem and router. Had TWC "extreme" internet which is 30mbps and router was delivering 22mbps both ethernet and wireless while ethernet direct from modem showed over 40mbps. Upgraded to "ultimate" internet which is 50mbps and still getting the same output from the router, cannot get more than 22mbps. Ethernet direct from the modem shows 62mbps. Have updated Nighthawk R8000 firmware and changed channels with no change to performance. Distance from the router is less than 20 feet. Any ideas?.

Re: R8000 losing speed

In post 3 I gave you a suggestion to follow, You have to solve the wired problem first. Reset to defaults, and test, same problem contact support.

The reset to defaults is done by pressing reset util power led flashes, see manual if still unsure of that process.

Re: R8000 losing speed

What is your wireless settings? security protocol, WMM,  speed -mode?  Wired connection is OK? QoS enabled?

Re: R8000 losing speed

I would perform a factory reset to default and use default settings, retest the direct connection (wired) if still lower than modem replace cable, still bad contact support

Re: R8000 losing speed

Settings:  Security protocol-- WPA2-PSK [AES]; WMM--Enabled; QoS--Enabled; Speed mode--no idea, this is all new to me and shouldn't this thing be easier?

Re: R8000 losing speed

For the time being disable QoS. Speed is the WiFi speed it is like up to 800 or upto 1333. etc. Set it to maximum number.

Fo information QoS makes speed slow donw 5 - 7%.

Re: R8000 losing speed

When I bypass the Nighthawk and connect directly to the modem with a cable, my speed is great--surpasses what TWCable says I would get (50mbps) and tested at 62mbps. So I know that TWC service is not the problem. When run the modem cable to the Router, and then cable to my laptop, the speed drops to 21-22mbps and it is the same if I go wireless. I will try to do a factory reset next once I figure out how to do that.

Re: R8000 losing speed

Speeds are set to the max. I tried disabling QoS, and saw no difference in performance. After re-enabling QoS I then also tried disabling WMM and that also made no difference. Each time the Nighthawk reset which took a few minutes, so I'm pretty sure I am doing that right.

Re: R8000 losing speed

Are you testing wired connection? Those settings are for wireless.

Re: R8000 losing speed

All the changes were made and then tested using wireless. I only used the wired connection to the modem to establish that my TWC service was indeed sending me 50mbps which I was paying for. And I tried wired through the router to see if there was any difference between the wired vs wireless the Nighthawk was putting out.
