No, you don't know that. A functioning Ethernet cable and Internet
connectivity are two different things.

Restart or reset?
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual (at least). Read. Look for the
LED descriptions, "Troubleshoot", and "Reset".

I don't know what "add it back" means to you, or what, exactly, says
what, exactly, when you do what, exactly.
Interesting: What, exactly, are you doing? What, exactly, happens
when you do it?

the firmware might have been corrupted. Did you try resetting it by pressing the reset button with a paper clip for 30 seconds. You might be able to reload firmware using tftp, give that a try.
