R8000 password does not protect

Hello,

Curious problem. Upon changing router password on my Nighthawk R8000, my tablet can still use two of the three icons to use the network. Powered off the tablet and brought it back up and it still connects to the network and has complete internet access. Only the Netgear65 was blocked by needing a new password to access the network. Did not have to put in the new password like I had to do with DTV genie, Laptops and smartphones. Why is it that my tablet was able to continue using the network and the online genie network map would show the tablet accessing the network...without needing to change to the CORRECT password? Using WPA2-PSK setting. Guest access is disabled. Furthermore, it does see the number of devices as correct which is 9 however, it doesn't show all devices???

Also, Network map does not show my daughters smartphone when it accesses the network yet, shows her sister's phone which is an identical make and model?

This is the usual way of accessing your device.

Just point your browser at one of these addresses:

http://www.routerlogin.net
 
If they don't work, then the IP address might be an option. Here the usual suspects are:
 
http://192.168.0.1
 
or
 
http://192.168.1.1

Okay, my tablet is a Samsung. Parent's tablet has the ability to do the same thing, their tablet is an LG. They are/were able to access the network without logging in. Is this a concern? Is the router protected? Is the network?

Did you change the PW for all wifi SSID names? Besure to try and forget or delete prior used profiles on your devices then set up the new connection again. Change the SSID name and PW on all radios to something unique between each radio so you know which one your connecting too. 

Use WPA2 and AES only for best security.

Hmmm. No, I did not and that probably is the problem. I though quite simply that changing one changed all. I will do this immediately. Thank You!

Okay, I see where I can change the pw for Netgear65 2.4ghz...done. Additionally, I see where I can change the pw for Netgear65-5g-2 5.0ghz...done. How do I change the pw for Netgear65-5g-1 I do not see a tab for it?

The router password is not the same thing as the wifi password.

Are you sure you changed the right one?

Hello, thanks for responding. There is no way to scroll there are only two tabs: one for 2.4ghz which is the "Netgear65" and I changed that password or 5.0ghz which is labeled as "Netgear65-5G-2 and I changed that password. Somewhere there should be a "Netgear65-5G-1" and until I can find a way to either remove or change the password it remains. How do I find or delete or change this?

This suggests to me that you are using the desktop genie to access the router. Some things are better done with the web interface.

Excellent question.

I was under the impression that there was a way in. But when I went to look for it, it wasn't there. Perhaps this is another thing they removed in the last "improvement" to the genie.
