R9000 Nighthawk X10 Router SFP internet port question
Hi I want to be able to use the X10 as a bridge to connect to my existing wireless network. I also want to connect a device I have to the router via the SFP port. Will the SFP port output acc...

Just following up on this thread as I finally bought a used X10 so I can test the SFP port. I've enabled SFP in the WAN area of the admin and plugged in my SFP cable and it isn't recognising the SFP modules I've bought?
The 10G light isn't coming on, and the admin area says "no SFP+" cable connected
This is the cable I am using
I assume I've used an incompatible assembly?

Ya those may not work. This is the one I have:

Ok I can confirm the R9000 in wireless bridge mode with a Cable Matters 10Gb SFP to Ethernet adapter plugged in that it works. I have my R9000 connected to a RAX120v2 in router mode. R9000 wirelessly bridged. I had to set WPA2/AES only to get the R9000 to work right. SFP port is connected to my ethernet PC on 1Gb adapter.

Worth to list again: What SFP+ modules are compatible with Nighthawk X10 R9000, R8900 and Nighthawk Pro Gaming XR700 routers?
- NuforceJan 02, 2024AspirantWould the Finisar FTLF1318P3BTL be compatible? I'm not an expert in SFP module compatibility.

Try the cable matters branded one I posted. Its working if you need SFP to Ethernet on the R9000. It's what I'm using currently to post this message.

Notwithstanding the odd specs would this transceiver be likely to work ? - FURRYe38Jan 02, 2024Guru - Experienced User
Something you'll have to try and test out to see then.

ok so I've just received a pair of Finisar FTLX1471D3BCL which are confirmed as compatible with the X10 and I still can't get the SFP connection to work.
The 10G light is not illuminating and my connected device isn't seeing the X10 over SFP.
Do I have to enable SFP in the admin area somewhere?

Where it the other end FTLX1471D3BCL SFP+ connected to? Computer fiber adapter or switch, make, model, firmware, ....?
Correct Single Mode Fibers in place?
LC/PC or LC/UPC connectors on the patch cord, typically blue (not green ... that would be LC/APC)?
Both FTLX1471D3BCL marked for the same wavelength? 1310 nm is a typical default.
Crossed tx and lx fibers accordingly?
A generic module with an RJ45 port for copper Ethernet is often helpful in checking the SFP/SFP+ ports.

actually if I loop one of the pairs of LC cables in on itself the 10G light DOES come on, so that is a relief. I obviously have the cables connected incorrectly.
Of the pair of cables, one run has writing and black tape around it, the other is blank

Yes, that's the most basic test - a fiber loopback.

The fiber does not care about the direction - just the receivers do. Depending on the cable, you might have to swap the connectors on the carrier plate.
Many modules have markings like Tx and Rx or < > on the modules 8-)
One of the two connectors is always the sender, the other one is the receiver.
