RC7900 as base for mesh network?

Is it possible to use a Nighthawk X6 (AC3000 Triband Router) as the base station for a mesh network? I'm currently in an old (lath and plaster, brick) three-unit building with several wired access points, which seems to work pretty well, the the APs are kind of old and I want to assure good Internet connections in the two units I will rent out.

The box claims 3X3 2.4 GHz channels, 3X3 5 GHz channels, and 3X3 5 GHz channels. Does this mean I can have separate 2.4 GHZ (for IOT) channels for each unit and similar for each of the 3X3 5 GHz channels.  Each with separate passwords? Or do I have to use the Guest channels in some way?

Thanks. I go back to 300 baud with acoustic couplers on Arpanet, but I can't keep up with all this new-fangled stuff. Or can anyone recommend a good tutorial/reference?

I guess my question is what type of mesh are you wanting to setup?

An orbi system, a MK nighthawk system, or trying to use a series of extenders?

Are they going to be hardwired in or are you wanting to use the wireless backhaul (plaster lathe can cause issues with wireless backhaul)

FYI, the R7900 isn't a mesh router. You can use it in conjunction to a mesh system but it doesn't integrate

Thanks. As soon as I posted, some other similar questions, with similar answers, that I hadn't seen on an earlier search, popped up. I think II'll have to accept that my router won't work as a mesh component and maybe upgrade my APs as necessary. I'm just trying to minimize the amount of new equipment that I need to buy and decide how much CatX cable I need to run while the walls and ceilings are open. There's a good article in the current Consumer Reports that suggests some standards for different size houses/users and I guess I'll have to walk around with network analyzer and see what I've got.

If you're going with a hardwired backhaul, I'd check into the MK63 system. Its a dual band system which isn't as fast as the tribands when using the wireless backhaul. But with a wired backhaul? They function pretty solid. And they're significantly cheaper than the tribands.

you could go R7900 (router mode)---->MR60 (in access point mode)------->MS60 satellites

Then you could use the R7900 to offload a few devices off the system like IoT devices or streamers that are close to the main router.
