WHY is a power reset required after Internet loss

Hi All,

Can anyone explain WHY.......

After a loss of service (in this case I had to unplug at the master socket to test for a phone line fault, but after any service interteruption).....after reconnection of provider or data cables.....The router fails to load any web pages instead asking for login info.

On logging into the Router it shows as no connection and the simplist resolution is to power off and back on.

This is on a fibre BB connection.....never had the situation with std BB

Thanks

It is not a problem that recurs often......I would simply like to understand what is happening and why.

You're Welcome,

Then there's your answer, they are probably using some proprietary FW in their router/modem.

Re: WHY is a power reset required after Internet loss

Try a reset to defaults use defaults except for WIFI, see if that makes a difference.

If the internet LED is orange remove WAN cable for a second and reconnect it......also if IPV6 is enable try disabling.....is router status you can try to renew IP too.

Some process stops when service is down and won't restart without a reboot. Try a power cycling ISP box next time.

Re: WHY is a power reset required after Internet loss

Many thanks for taking the time to respond @Retired_Member,

I have the LED's disabled so couldn't tell, but will try the WAN cable disconnect next time.

(Just to clarify....This is not a repeat problem with disconnection, it is very rare to lose service, indeed this time was as a result of me needing to access the test plug at the main BT incoming box due to a telephone line failure).

I note with interest you suggest a service may simply get interupted and therefore require a reboot.........would that be within the router iteself or the PC? (I had not tried rebooting PC)

Thanks again

I doubt it's in the router certainly not the PC, more than likely something with the ISP, you should contact them.
