It was released earlier today, so not very old. Thanks for noticing and pointing it out though.

Re: nighthawk R7000 firmware V1.0.9.12_1.2.23 update wifi problems
1. Backed up my current config
2. Reset the router to manufacturer
3. Upgrade the firmware to version 1.0.9.14
4. Rebooted the router
5. Restored the config from backup
Here is the result:
1. The range has improved dramatically. Haven't experienced any drop yet
2. The speed is back to normal on Android, Windows and IOS devices (my iPhone and Ipads). This is the first time I get my upload/download full speed back
I'll keep monitoring to see if it's staying that way or not. So far, I'm very pleased with the new firmware release.

What speed are you getting on IOS? I can't get anything over 40-45 Mbps on any IOS device. My other Wireless can get 110 on 2.4 Ghz and 240 on 5 Ghz.

Re: nighthawk R7000 firmware V1.0.9.12_1.2.23 update wifi problems
I downloaded and upgraded the router to version V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 and these are my observations:
- for the first time i get 87.30 Mbps (speedtest.net app) on my iphone (previously it would be around 40Mbps max)
- I have 93.7 Mbps on my laptop
- The range seems to be improved as i now have full bars wifi on my laptop (Windows 7 / Dell)
For now it seems that netgear (finally) got it under control. Hopefully the roouter stays stable and performing.
I would recommend upgrading to this firmware version.

Ok, now I am confused. I was and still am getting 40's speed. If I go back to 1.0.9.6 my speed is fine. See pic, slow is before and after 1.0.9.14 and middle is 1.0.9.6. I have a iPhone 6S and iPad (latest model) and both exhibit same issue?

I have 25/25M Internet connection. When I ran the speed test, I got full 25/25M. For the wireless transmission speed, which is totally different than the Internet speed, my test showed 270Mbps on 2.4Ghz and 910Mbps on 5Ghz. Hope that helps.
How are you doing local speed test from IOS to R7000? Using an app or something else?

Yes. I used Wi-Fi SweetSpots app
I went and got that app, it tells you the theoretical Wi-Fi max speed rather than actually testing anything. It is more for signal strength testing than throughput testing. Thank you though because you prompted me to test out two other apps.
Using SpeedSmart and Speedcheck I am able to get 200+ speed. It is only the SpeedTest app that has the issue. However it doesn't have issue on 1.0.9.6? Weird.

Hi. Thanks for the update on version V1.0.9.14_1.2.25.
My current "Network Genie Firmware Update Assistant" login doesn't show version V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 as yet available.... it is still showing 1.0.9.12_1.2.23 to download.
Where did you obtain V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 ?
Thanks.

Re: nighthawk R7000 firmware V1.0.9.12_1.2.23 update wifi problems
I know that sometimes I can't get an accurate speed test in San Diego unless I tell it to connect to servers in Tijuana because the server it chooses automatically doesn't have enough bandwidth on the link from my ISP, so it under reports the result.
Can you verify that you're always hitting the same server for these results?
Also: can folks reporting about the performance issue state whether they are testing to the router or to the internet.

I also had an issue with all of my iOS devices registering no more than 40K. I tried a factory reset after the upgrade to avail. After returning to 1.0.9.6, all of my iOS devices returned to downloading at 200K+.

Re: nighthawk R7000 firmware V1.0.9.12_1.2.23 update wifi problems
- the speed on 2.4Ghz has dropped big time. Downloading a 8M file show one day and 7 hours
- IOS get dropped more frequently on 5Ghz channel
I will have to revert back to the last firmware which gave me much better speed and stability.

My unit died suddenly.
Firstly, It's usb 2.0 does not work anymore. Now, a few months later, it's Lan ports all gone. Not working even tried the reset, power off/on.

Re: nighthawk R7000 firmware V1.0.9.12_1.2.23 update wifi problems
Frikking years after the R7000 came out, and tell me how to reset the VPN keys? Oh that's right, YOU CAN'T! If you ever suspect your key file was compromised by anyone you can never secure your LAN again so long as you have the Netgear VPN function on.
Nice, eh?

Re: nighthawk R7000 firmware V1.0.9.12_1.2.23 update wifi problems
everyone - please try the following: Advanced -> Setup -> QoS Setup -> and disabling WMM for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
hopefully that will cut the crap with the wireless issues.
