I decided to go with Nest Wifi because the biggest frustration was the Google Chromecast and my smart speakers - So I figured those should work with a Google mesh solution - and so far it has been plug n play. No issues - I can cast fine, my devices see each other.
It really should be an obvious thing for NETGEAR to get right - not sure how they still don't have a fix for this Nighthawk system.
