Wifi 6 tri band mesh router nighthawk Dos attack

Hi, I was wondering if anybody has ever had the problem where your Wi-Fi was creating false positives on incoming traffic I have the Tri-Band 6 mesh router , I also notice that around 7 and 8 pm my router goes loopy and shuts down time to time or goes super slow .. I disable dos protection because it seem to put stress on my router… what can I do to avoid false positives.. and make my wifi faster?

Apart from the restarts, what  do you mean by that?

If you are looking at the router's logs are notoriously unreliable.

Netgear's firmware is great at creating false reports of DoS attacks.

If these events are slowing down your router, that may be because it is using up processor time as it writes the events to your logs. Anything that uses processor power – event logging, QoS management, traffic metering – may cause slowdowns. Disable logging of DoS attacks and see if that reduces the problem. This does not prevent the router from protecting you from the outside world.

Re: Wifi 6 tri band mesh router nighthawk Dos attack

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR📡 and RBS🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
Turn off and unplug modem.
Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? A complete pull of the power adapters for a period of time after the factory reset then walk thru the setup wizard and setup from scratch with a wired PC and web browser. Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200.

For that size if phone, the MR and just 1 MS would be needed.

Might update FW:

Is there a brand and model# of the ISP modem/ONT?

Re: Wifi 6 tri band mesh router nighthawk Dos attack

I finallly fixed it i disabled the dos protection called spectrum they switched out the wire because it was corroded, after alot of research i upgraded my LAN cable from 5e to cat 8 internet started running great, i had over 20 devices connected to my wifi the upgrade helped, i did full reset  on router and modem and worked like charm.

Re: Wifi 6 tri band mesh router nighthawk Dos attack

Glad you got it working. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
