failed firmware update on R6120

I got an email suggesting that I update the firrmware on my R6120.

I opened the Netware Genie on my Windows PC.

I clicked on "Router settings" and logged in.

Then I clicked on "update" and it reports "Failed to get firware version information."

Then I checked the current firmware and see that it is far out of date.

So I used my browser to connect instead.

I downloaded the new firmware and clicked on "upload"

It took a couple minutes, but it uploaded.

Then the router tried to restart.  After an hour the power light was still blinking.  So I disconnected it and restarted.

Fortunately, it still works with the old firmware (1.0.0.58).

Should I be thankful that the router still works and forget about upgrading the firmware?

The file I downloaded from Netgear yesterday and tried to install was R6120-V1.0.0.80.img.

Be sure to visit the General Routers forum for your model router:

Glad you got it working. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
