need to open specific port on MR60

Question

I'm having a problem with communicating with my Epson-2760 scanner and Epson support said the solution is to open a specific port (2968) on my router. The information on your website is confusing: does that involve port forwarding or port triggering? How do I open that port?

Thanks for your reply but I'm still unsure how to do this. I'm trying to get my Epson to scan a document in pdf and send it to my computer. Epson tech support said I needed to open port 2968 on my router. I set up port forwarding on my router like this: protocol TCP/UDP, external port start 1 and end 2968, internal ports the same way, internal IP address of my printer. But my issue still exists. Part of the problem may be that the Epson has 2 IP addresses on my router, 1.15 and 1.7. Or maybe the internal IP address should be my computer? TIA for your help on this.

Networked scanners don't come up here often, but my guess is that it won't be very different from a printer and that Epson is feeding you with the usual boilerplate "pass the buck" garbage.

The usual way to fix wifi printers, and maybe scanners which are often combined devices, is to find the printer maker's utility. That's the software that runs on your operating system. Then use that to connect the printer to the wifi.

The router just broadcasts wifi. It is then down to the printer to play ball. There isn't much that you can do on a router, beyond fixing it to a particular IP address, that affects what the printer gets up to.
