NETGEAR Nighthawk X4S AC2200 will not connect to my unsecured network

I am trying to set up my new extender and I have an unsecured network and the extender doesn't seem to want to connect to the internet.  It actually does all the right things like has a solid blue light, and acts like it is connected.  My computer sees it and says it is not connected to the internet.  I am so frustrated.  It appears like a device that is easy to set up, but I am at my wits end.  All the start up material says it automatically connects and then you are good to go.  I am not seeing it.
