Let me see if I understand you correctly - when you switch off the laptop, which has no connection, either wired or wireless, to the extender, the upstairs PVR disappears from the list of available devices - is that correct?
My first question is - on what device are you looking at this list of available devices - presumably, it's one or both of the TVs.
If that is correct - I have a second question - can you, at that time, from the upstairs TV, see the downstairs PVR?
What I am establishing here (or seeking to establish) is that the extender maintains it's connection to the router, and also to the TV.
Another question - if you were to connect the laptop to the router using Ethernet - what happens - does the PVR reappear? What happens if you connect the laptop, again wired, to the extender - does the PVR reappear?
Ideally what I would like to see done, is a device, a PC would be best, used to ping the missing PVR, after it has "disappeared" from the list of available devices.
