WNCE2001 WEP Password

My apartment complex provides WiFi, and they gave me the "password". I picked up a WNCE2001 to connect to it so my old laptop without WiFi can get online. The problem is the password that they gave me is only 5 characters and when I use it on my phone I can connect without any problems, but I can't connect with adapter. It finds the network without any problems and I enter the password into the passphrase box and hit generate and I have tried all 4 of the keys and none of them work. So what is the difference between the password that I enter into the phone and the setup on this unit?

    thats super strange. I'm thinking it maybe defective. Try exchanging for another one and test it out. If it continues then I might be something that we need to bring to NetGears attention. Also if you know what router its trying to connect to that would be great. Get the model number if possible. I can try and find some info about the router and it being compatible with the WNCE2001 or not.
