192.168.1.1 refused to connect : and Genie Netgear router is not found when attempting to login
I receive "192.168.1.1 refused to connect" when attempting to access the router.
Same error using routerlogin.net
I receive "Netgear router is not found" when attempting to login to admin.
The last time I was in admin was about 2 months ago.
I had to go as far as reseting to the factory settings and recofiguring everything all over again. Made sure the firmware was current.
After the factory reset I was able to login to Admin from both 192.168.1.1 and the Genie app.
That lasted about a week and its back to the same issue again.
Access to the internet and any other non-admin feature seams to be working fine.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 192.168.1.1 refused to connect : and Genie Netgear router is not found when attempting to login
What firmware version do you have on the device?
A number is more useful than "the latest". (It may not be by the time people read this.) There can also be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware in the browser interface.
It might also help if you told people what the modem is in front of this router, if there is one. The model number could be useful. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?
The reason for asking is that a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.
Having two routers on a network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.
This explains some of the other drawbacks.

Re: 192.168.1.1 refused to connect : and Genie Netgear router is not found when attempting to login
Thank you for your feedback. No apologies necessary. I appreciate the level of detail you are looking for.
Sorry, I thought the model recommended was filled in and saved when I opened the post.
R7300DST|AC1900 DST Router and DST Adapter.
The firmware version I have to get from the zip file label since I can't get into the router to verify.
When I reset it back to the factory settings, I pulled the version below from the netgear support site for this model. After installing it, I checked for new versions and it came back stating the latest version was installed.
V1.0.0.0.74_1.0.29
http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/R7300DST/R7300-V1.0.0.74_1.0.29.zip
The cable modem from the ISP is ARRIS CM820A. It is not a router.
There are Lan ports but the only thing plug into the ethernet ports is a storage device.
From the Genie desktop app interface, I verified all the IPs from the network map.
Next steps?

Re: 192.168.1.1 refused to connect : and Genie Netgear router is not found when attempting to login
I successfully logged in. Then minutes later I got kicked out.
I get the following error message when attempting to login.
This site can’t be reached
routerlogin.net refused to connect.
Try:
- Checking the connection
- Checking the proxy and the firewall
I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015)
I upgraded to macOS Big Sur last week. version 11.0.1
My ethernet connection stopped working, after the Big Sur update. This is why I attempted to login in the first place.
