2.4 Ghz Devices Won't Connect (R6700)

I can connect my iphone, ipad, and computers to the 2.4 ghz network with no problem. But I am unable to connect smart devices to it. I have a CNCT smart plug and an easyplay interactive pet toy, bothof which can only use the 2.4 ghz band. Neither of these will connect. I usually get a message like "unable to connect to wifi".

I have tried rebooting the router, resetting the router, resetting the two devices, and deleting the apps used to connect them, but nothing seems to work.

Does anyone know what might be causing this problem?

I was just coming on here to note my problems after applying firmware update 1.0.1.44.  I experienced UPnP no longer working so things like Xbox Live, my Plex server, Skype, etc. was dropping connection and/or not connecting at all.  I've since rolled back to 1.0.1.36 and everything is working like before.  There is some serious issue with the latest firmware.  Too bad Netgear doesn't allow you to file bugs because I spent an entire day trying to get my network back in order.
