Re: 2.4Ghz slow speeds

50 mbps is actually pretty good for some 2.4ghz networks. My area is over saturated in 2.4ghz and I routinely only get 20-30mbps over 2.4ghz because of the congestion. I occassionally will see peaks up to 80mbps but its rare and doesn't last. This has been tested with multiple router/manufacturers, wifi recievers. I have a gigabit connection with 500mbps+ over 5ghz.

So again, a lot depends on your network congestion, house materials, and device you're using.

How many networks can you see if you run a channel scanner?

What is your housing material and size?

What chipset are you testing with?

Have you tried changing wifi channels to optimize a little?

Re: 2.4Ghz slow speeds

I live in a rual area and only have 3 other networks nearby me but they are spaced out. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 3521 with intel HM76 chipset. I feel like channel 11 runs the best, cant check on 5 ghz.

Which wireless chip in it?
From what I could find, it's a older wireless n device. Have you tested it on something newer?

Blame assignment is job one.  Is your bottleneck your ISP service, or
your router, or your (unspecified) "my laptop"?  Can you get better
speed from your "my laptop" using some other router?  Can some other
computer get better speed from your router?

Re: 2.4Ghz slow speeds

I have Spectrum internet 100/10 using a Arris TM1602 modem. I dont have another pc or laptop to try but i had test speeds using an ipod touch 6th gen and got the same results on 2.4 but tested 5ghaz on it and got a like 104/12 mbps.

Have you any (better equipped) friends?

Not amazing.  The implementation of the 5GHz band was intended to
provide more bandwidth than that of the 2.4GHz band.

Normally, you can drive faster on a limited-access highway than you
can on a residential street.  That's not a defect in your car.

Your options?

Update/replace the wifi card in the laptop to support 5g

https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Dell+Inspiron+15-3521+Wireless+Card+Replacement/31938

https://www.dell.com/community/Inspiron/Intel-N7260-wifi-card-upgrade-on-a-Inspiron-3521/td-p/725295...

Get a usb 5ghz device for your laptop

Use a powerline/moca adapter device to connection your laptop.

hardwire in the laptop.

The older N300 laptop cards that were stock in the dell 3521 aren't going to give you great speeds. The fact that you're getting 50mbps out of it is pretty great for that laptop.
