Plug in to what? a modem-only? A Modem/router gateway?
Which router model do you have? Which firmware version?

Has your (unspecified) "the router" a maker and model number? If
Netgear made it, then visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your
model number, and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual (at
least). Read. Look for the LED descriptions to see what "orange"
(amber) means.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual (at least). Read. Look for the
"Technical Specifications" and, specifically, the Ethernet speeds (not
really what I'd call "Data and routing protocols"):
IEEE 802.3 (10BASE-T), IEEE 802.3u (100BASE-Tx)

Replace your old, slow Powerline devices with newer ones which have
faster (gigabit/s) Ethernet interfaces?
Why, exactly, do you care about the LED color? Are your Powerline
gizmos actually limiting the network speed for your device(s)?
