AC1900 C7000v2 Firmware Update

Bought the AC1900 WiFi Cable Moden Router Model C7000v2 in Dec 2020 but just hooked it up this week (3/25/21).  Upon setup, received "Firmware Out of Date" message.  The Nighthawk app/Routerlogin.net brings me to a NETGEAR genie page but there is not an option to update the firmware. Of course, the 90 day complimentary warranty is expired, although I haven't used the piece of equiment yet, so when I called for help the support person just wanted to sell me an extended warrenty.  How nice.

Am I able to update this firmware? ISP provider is Spectrum.

"received" from _what_?  (Trust no one, I always say.)

   On a C7000v2?  No.

Is there some actual problem, or only the useless/misleading message?

Re: AC1900 C7000v2 Firmware Update

The message is in the Nighthawk App which I was using to set up the router/modem.  I am not able to move beyond this "Out of Date"message in the App.  I'm wondering if this firmware issue is why my printer is unable to connect to the router - ?

More fine Netgear software.  I'd use a web browser, and forget the
app.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.  Look for
"Log In to the Modem Router".

I doubt it, but what do I know?  I don't even know what your "my
printer" is (maker, model number), or if it ever worked in any other
environment.  Most printer problems are not the fault of the router, but
many things are possible.

"unable" is not a useful problem description.  It does not say what
you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.  As usual,
showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error
messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

Generally, I'd fetch the documentation for the printer, and do what
it says.

Re: AC1900 C7000v2 Firmware Update

Thanks for your response.  I will get the user manuel for the router - hopefully that will help me.  I apologize for the vague descriptions.  I've never used a site like this before so I will keep that in mind for future queries.

BTW - my printer is a HP DeskJet 3630 and it did work with my prior, Spectrum supplied router.  The timing of the printer not working wirelessly/connecting with the Nighthawk router and the installation of the new modem / router is why I questioned if the firmware was the problem.

Thanks again.

Connected wirelessly or by Ethernet cable?  If wirelessly, do other
wireless devices work as expected?

> [...] The timing of the printer not working [...]

Did you configure the C7000v2 exactly the same as your (unspecified)
"my prior, Spectrum supplied router"?  If the printer's connected
wirelessly, and the new router uses a different SSID or passphrase, then
I'd expect connection problems, but that's not a problem with the
router.

> [...] is why I questioned if the firmware was the problem.

Even if the router is causing the problem, not every router-caused
problem is a firmware problem.

What is the actual symptom behind "printer is unable to connect to
the router"?  Is the problem between the printer and the router, or
between some computer and the printer, or what/where, exactly?  See "not
a useful problem description [...]", above.

Again, if the printer is the only client device with a problem, then
I'd concentrate on the printer.

There's a bug in the Nighthawk app that throws up this message.

You have no control over the firmware on your cable modem/router so it means nothing. It is just annoying and gets in the way.

Netgear knows about this. But don't hold your breath waiting for an update.

Nighthawk app same "firmware not updated" when it ... - NETGEAR Communities

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your hardware, in the appropriate section for your device. That's probably here:

Cable Modems & Routers

For the apps try the section linked above.

If your firmware is outdated, you cannot manually upgrade your cable modem’s or modem router’s firmware. You must contact your Internet service provider (ISP) to upgrade your firmware.

Thanks for repeating the information in the first reply.  Are you
