AC1900 -R7000 Stopped working after firmware update

I updated my firmware through the Nighthawk app tonight and then my router stopped working. The power light is just blinking.

I’ve disconnected, I’ve done factory reset, I changed where it’s plugged it, I plugged it into my laptop but still not working.

Super frustrating since it’s less than a year old and it wasn’t cheap. Looked online and many others have had this issue. I can’t contact support without paying money, but the issue came up after I updated their firmware.

Would appreciate any assistance you could provide. I’m somewhat computer savvy.

Thank you!!

Re: AC1900 -R7000 Stopped working after firmware update

I upgraded to this new firmware 1.0.9.88_10.2.88 and it bricked my router as well. I tried using tftp to manually "put"this firmware to the router but again, bricked. I "put" the previous version to the router using tftp and was able to get the router back up.

Something wrong with the new version?

This does not fill me with confidense in Netgear and any new upgrades they may release.

You may be a candidate for the TFTP recovery scheme. See, for
example:

If you open up "Netgear Genie"

go to "Network Support"

Click on the "FAQ" tab and click on the "v" arrow at the end of the question "My router stopped working and the Power LED blinks..." it will tell you how to use tftp in windows to manually upload the firmware to the router. You may have to turn on the tftp feature in windows. (Using command prompt, Drill down to the folder where the firmware file is and use "tfpt -i 192.168.1.1 put firmware_filename")

The bigger point being made here is: FIRMWARE VERSION 1.0.9.88_10.2.88 SEEMS TO BE BLOKEN. User a previous version to get it going again.

A suggestion, in the future always install firmware using a PC Ethernet connected to the router and do a manual update. Over the air updates weither via app or PC connected via wireless is asking for trouble as you folks have found out. Also, if auto update is on turn it off.

Which part of "this" is the mystery?  You need to fetch the
appropriate firmware kit from the Netgear support site, and save it on
a computer.  That operation requires an Internet connection.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Downloads.  (For older versions, under Firmware and Software
Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".)  Find the kit(s).
Download the kit(s) you want.  Normally, you'd then read the "Release
Notes" file for instructions, but if you're doing a TFTP recovery, then
follow the instructions for that.

After you have fetched the firmware kit, and saved it on some
computer, you don't need an Internet connection to do the rest of the
procedure, only a (wired) connection between the problem router and the
computer with the firmware image file.
