I am trying to access the area of the Netgear site to update the firmware on my router. When I respond to the security questions, I am told that the answers are incorrect. I guess I do not know what school I went to or my sisters name. There is no way around this and I cannot go further. As ususal Netgear has no help available to resolve this issue.

I'll assume that "the Netgear site" means your own router's web site
(something like "routerlogin.net"), not an actual Netgear
("netgear.com") site. As usual, an accurate description of what you did
would be more helpful than your interpretation of what it all means.

Reset the router, and reconfigure it. Visit
http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look for
Documentation. Get the User Manual, and look for something like
"Factory Settings". Then the section(s) on router configuration.
There is support material, including a manual, for the R7000 somewhere at the end of this link:
>>>> R7000 | Product | Support | NETGEAR <<<<
The firmware is there too, with release notes that explain how to update the firmware:
There is also a Hotfix that might become a new firmware release some time in the future,
