ASUS or Netgear Routers

I currently have an Asus rt-ac68u that I've had for quite a few years and has worked very well for me. I'm looking for a reason to switch to Netgear with my next upgrade. I've already upgraded my modem to a DOCSIS 3.1 via the cm1000, however I have been less than impressed. This new modem has given me more trouble than all of my previous modems combined. However I feel like I should still give Netgear the benefit of the doubt and continue this Netgear hardware push to get the full Netgear experience if you will. I've been looking at upgrading to one of the newer Nighthawk routers, but some of the complaints in the forums is making me second-guess my decision to switch the Netgear entirely. I am a Casual Gamer with both of my primary consoles on WiFi and I also work from home using a wired connection so the network reliability is fairly important to me.

Are there any users here who have used both Asus Routers as well as Netgear routers, and can detail their experiences with both?

Re: ASUS or Netgear Routers

I know that the Asus uses a dd-wrt type firmware which gives more options and some controls not given by the Netgear firmware.

I would wait before jumping into netgear all the way if you are having second thoughts about what you read.

Re: ASUS or Netgear Routers

Very honestly, I'm both ASUS and NEGEAR fan, because I'm having both at different houses.
But for the time being, unless you are willing to deal with all technical problems that arise from newer Netgear Nighawk router model with updates firmware, you are better off with Asus router.
Just my openion....

Re: ASUS or Netgear Routers

I have to agree, I have had both ASUS and Netgear routers and have experienced more problems with the Netgear firmware than the ASUS firmware.

Re: ASUS or Netgear Routers

Really wondering if that may be different on the XR500 considering the Netduma partnership.

Also hearing that the reach of the 5Ghz band on the XR500 is underwhelming.
