AX8 mesh with EAX20

hi

 

I just moved in my new appartment. I own a Nighthawk AX8 routeur, and the wifi signal is too weak to reach the second floor (the routeur is located on the first floor close to the TV). In my bedroom, the signal is lost frequently. To solve this problem, I've been thinking about buying an EAX20 extender, which can be connected by ethernet backhaul. Do you think I can do this? I use smart connect with my current routeur (all 3 channels in one SSID).

    the smart roaming/mesh features on the EAX20 don't work when setup in acces point mode. 

    But if the signal is that bad, you can just have the same ssid as the primary router and let devices (phone/tablet/etc) own roaming protocols roam between them.
