Accessing 2.4

I have a new hub but motorized shades that can only be configured if the hub accesses the 2.4gz band. I can't figure out how to force that to happen vs. the 5gz band. Can I turn of the 5gz band temporarily or is there an alternative solution? The shade company is no help and tells me to consult the router company but my support options are community forums only.

Re: Accessing 2.4

Thanks for the guidance. I finally have it working and if I could have provided more info about blinking LED lights, etc. I would have but it's essentially a dark black box with very little markings and virtually no feedback clues. I really just wanted to know how to shut down the 5ghz band on the router which I finally figured out how to do.

Re: Accessing 2.4

This is a common problem with home automation hardware, and it's one that Netgear seems unwilling to address. I had the same sort of problem, and followed these steps to split the WiFi networks into 2.4Ghz and 5.2Ghz:

https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/Separate-2-4GHz-and-5GHz-Orbi-RBR50/td-p/1647197

It worked well for me for quite a while, but last night a new firmware came out and it un-did the change, tossing a bunch of my devices off WiFi, and I'm having problems putting the fix back in. But you should give it a try.

Wow, I can't edit my post? Anyway, I see you have a Nighthawk router, which is different from my Orbi, so my answer isn't likely going to be relevant - you'd want to search for a similar topic with the Nighthawk router.

Re: Accessing 2.4

I was able to go online and disable the 5ghz band but that still didn't work so I suspect the company selling this hub with motorized shades is selling a piece of crap, flawed hardware/shoftware. The shade store's technical support is entirely useless at this point also and I'm fairly tech savvy and know how to troubelshoot

> I have a new hub [...]

What is this "a new hub"?

> [...] but motorized shades [...]

Not a very detailed description of anything.

> [...] that can only be configured if the hub accesses the 2.4gz band.

Says who?  And what do you believe is stopping this (unspecified)
"the hub" from doing what, exactly?

> [...] Can I turn of the 5gz band temporarily [...]

Sure. Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number,
and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Look for "Control the
WiFi Radios" and "Enable or Disable the WiFi Radios".  But why do you
think that having the 5GHz radio working will stop any device from using
the 2.4GHz radio?

> [...] or is there an alternative solution?

I don't know what the problem is, which makes it tough to suggest a
solution.

> I was able to go online [...]

What does "go online" mean to you?

> [...] and disable the 5ghz band [...]

   How, exactly?

> [...] but that still didn't work [...]

"not work" is not a useful problem description.  It does not say what
you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.  As usual,
showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error
messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

Perhaps it would help if you described the actual problem, instead of
asking how to implement some particular "solution" ("turn of the 5gz
band") which may or may not have anything to do with the actual problem.

> [...] I'm fairly tech savvy and know how to troubelshoot

Which is why no one here knows the firmware version of your router,
or what all this equipment is, or how it's configured, or what you
actually did, or what actually happened when you did it?
